Master's Degree in Bilingual Education (AICLE)

Title justification

The objective of this Master's degree is part of the general objective of improving the range of postgraduate degrees offered in another foreign language, proposed in the ULL's Plurilingualism Support Plan. This plan states that "the Canary Islands' situation as a tricontinental meeting point makes it essential for the University of La Laguna to have a language policy that fosters our connection with Africa (French and English speaking), America (Spanish, English speaking, French and Portuguese speaking) and Europe, where English has become the lingua franca of the continent." It is therefore necessary to increase the range of postgraduate degrees in English, not only to attract international students but also to connect them with the needs of Canarian society. In this regard, it is worth mentioning the interest of the Canary Islands government in developing a bilingual plan for education, the PILE plan, which establishes Spanish/English bilingual education as a goal for the next decade.
To improve the arrival of bilingual students at ULLL, we must collaborate in the training of teachers who are responsible for ensuring that students reach a B2 level in English by the end of secondary school.
This master's program is designed for teachers and graduates from any field who intend to pursue a career in education. Applicants must also demonstrate a B2 level of English proficiency according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The program equips participants to implement CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) methodology in bilingual primary and secondary school settings. Furthermore, graduates will possess knowledge of the specific teaching methodologies for various subject areas, the ability to plan educational activities based on CLIL principles in bilingual schools, and will have at least a B2-C1 level of English according to the CEFR.
