Introduction

All students with foreign secondary studies recognised by MEC as equivalent to COU[1] or Bachillerato LOGSE[2] may, if he/she is included in any category listed below, take the entry examination offered by the National Distance-Education University, UNED,[3] for students with international secondary studies. Those who are not Spanish may sit the university entry examination (PAU) at any Spanish university as well. Spaniards with proof of foreign residence may also sit PAU at any Spanish university. But those Spaniards with their official residence in Spain can only take PAU at a public university within their province.

The categories of those allowed taking entry examinations under the auspices of UNED:

1.- Spanish students who were residents in a foreign country when they undertook studies equivalent to COU or to Bachillerato LOGSE. These Spanish students must show evidence of that residency during their period of study, certified by a Spanish embassy, consulate, or any other official diplomatic representation authorised by the Spanish government in the country where those studies were undertaken.

2.- Foreign students who undertook a course of study equivalent to COU or to Bachillerato LOGSE outside of Spain. Foreigners must prove their residence with pertinent certifications from the country where they resided when they undertook the relevant studies.

3.- Spanish or foreign students who undertook a course of study fully equivalent to COU or to Bachillerato LOGSE in a legally authorised foreign secondary school located in Spain.

4.- Spanish students who undertook a course of study outside of Spain equivalent to COU or to Bachillerato LOGSE but were not, at the time, registered residents, as is the case in number 1.- above, yet, are able to prove that their studies outside Spain were the result of a move from the habitual residence of their parents for employment reasons.

5.- Students who did not pass PAU but who have not used up their four sittings.

6.- Students who actually passed the entry examination the previous academic year at UNED yet want to improve their marks may re-sit the entry examinations.

Entry examinations, administered under the auspices of the UNED, take place in Madrid. MEC may, even though it is not usual, allow the examinations to be held in other countries or other Spanish cities.

The regular annual sitting is in June/July and a special extra one in September. The Rector the UNED will designate the day, hour, and venue of each sitting.

Every student has the right to a maximum of four sittings. If a student went to take the examinations but did not hand in any exercise, that mere physical presence is not considered a sitting although fees will be required again for any future sitting.
