Within the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP), Erasmus is one of the four sub-programmes focusing on Higher Education Institutions, Universities and Vocational Training. The main objectives of the Erasmus programme are focused on supporting the implementation of a European Higher Education space and consolidating the role in the innovation process of Higher Education and tertiary level Higher Vocational Education. In particular, the Programme aims to foster exchange, cooperation and mobility between education and training institutions within the European Community so that they become a world quality reference.
The most successful activities are those related to mobility of students and teaching staff, as well as of the universities' administrative and ancillary staff. The University of La Laguna is holder of the Extended Erasmus University Charter, awarded for the period 2007-2013 and that entitles the University to participate in a new Erasmus initiative, that is, student mobility for placement.
Erasmus grants, usually of a small amount, help to cover some basic expenses, such as travelling, accommodation, language courses among other costs. Although obtaining an Erasmus grant affords the possibility to study, teach or carry out other administrative functions in another university, it does not necessarily imply the granting of financial aid.
