Entrance exams

They are taken in person and written in Spanish; their contents reflect the programmes prescribed for secondary education in Spain (the Spanish Bachillerato LOGSE).

First exercise: consists of three parts that are meant to allow an assessment of the student's general preparation and maturity: understanding of concepts, handling of language and ability to analyse, connect and synthesise.

1. Written summary and commentary on a Spanish text of no more than 100 lines; maximum time given is an hour and a half. Questions on the text may occur.

2. Written discussion of the Spanish language based on one of the two texts offered and between which the student chooses; maximum time is an hour and a half.

3. Language exercise: questions on a text written in another language which the student decides among English, French, German, Italian and Portuguese; the questions on the text (a maximum of 250 words with a non-specialised vocabulary) are in the same language as the text and the student writes answers in that language also. Maximum time is one hour; dictionaries or other didactic tools are not allowed.

Each response receives a mark from one to ten and the overall score for the first exercise is the arithmetic mean of all marks.

Second exercise: the student, at the time of registration, will have chosen specifically between 1.-Science or 2.-Social Sciences/Humanities.

The subjects within each option and from which the student chooses three are the following:

- Science: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology and Technical Drawing.

- Social Sciences/Humanities: Literature, World History, Latin, Greek, Art History, Mathematics and Philosophy.

This exercise consists of written discussion on two questions selected by the student from the four offered on each of the three chosen subjects. These questions deal with salient, essentially basic aspects of the subjects and avoid, as much as possible, excessive specificity.

When and if the National Distance-Education University (UNED) decides so, the second exercise may consist of a repertory of questions.

The maximum time allowed to answer each question is an hour and a half, although in the case of Technical Drawing, the examining committee may agree to give more time.

Each answer receives a mark from one to ten and the overall score for the second exercise is the arithmetic mean of all marks.
