| Formación académica fundamental: | Dr. García possesses a robust academic background, which includes a bachelor’s degree in Sanitary Biology from the University of La Laguna (2012) and a master’s degree in forensic Analysis from the University of the Basque Country (2013). He also holds a degree in Physiotherapy from the European University of the Canary Islands (2021), which he pursued concurrently with his doctoral studies. He ultimately earned his Ph.D. in the Doctoral Program in Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Development, and Quality of Life at the University of La Laguna (2022). The purpose of his doctoral thesis was to study, in an animal model of arterial hypertension (spontaneously hypertensive rats, SHR), the effects of sustained elevated blood pressure on various ocular structures (ciliary processes, trabecular meshwork, retina, and optic nerve) and their potential association with structural and functional alterations that may contribute to the development of different ocular pathologies. His research demonstrated changes in markers of ciliary vessels, the epithelium of ciliary processes, and trabecular meshwork tissues, which could be associated with alterations in tissue perfusion, aqueous humor production, and reabsorption. Additionally, alterations in markers of retinal glial cells were identified, potentially associated with the development of reactive gliosis and damage to the inner blood-retinal barrier, leading to disruptions in the homeostasis of the inner retina. Optic nerve damage was also observed, characterized by disorganization of nerve bundles and demyelination of the nerve, along with the acceleration of aging-related damage in ocular tissues. This work earned him the highest distinction, summa cum laude, as well as the extraordinary doctoral award (2024). |

| Breve currículo profesional genérico: | His professional research experience includes previous roles such as Laboratory Technician at the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital Complex between 2011 and 2012, where he developed skills in cell culture and PCR techniques. Subsequently, he worked as a Laboratory Technician at the General Research Support Service (SEGAI) (2014-2015), where he specialized in ELISA and Western blot techniques. Since 2016, he has served as a researcher in Human Anatomy and Embryology in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences at the University of La Laguna. In collaboration with Ibrahim González Marrero, Miriam González Gómez, and Agustín Castañeyda Perdomo, he has conducted studies using ELISA, Western blot, dot blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence techniques to investigate pathologies such as normotensive hydrocephalus, non-communicating hydrocephalus, arterial hypertension, glaucoma, and aging, both in human and animal models. The results of these investigations include a total of 20 publications in internationally recognized journals, with 157 citations in the past five years, as well as participation in 15 conferences (5 international and 10 national). Furthermore, he was a member of the organizing committee for the 63rd Annual Meeting of the Society for Research into Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida in 2019, solidifying his commitment to research and scientific collaboration. | |
