Breve currículo investigador: Fernando Delgado (PhD 2005, ResearcherID: E-5790-2013, https://scholar.google.es/ citations?user=F2kGyfwAAAAJ&hl=es ) is a condensed matter theorist with 44
publications (among them, 1 Nature Nano, 1 Nature Materials, 5 Physical Review Letters or 1 Progress in Surface Science as first author), 930 citations, 1 article with over 200
citations, and H-index 17 (ISI Web of Science). He has given 7 invited talks in international conferences, 6 invited seminars, and accumulates over 30 participations on international
meetings and conferences.  FD has demonstrated his capability to do high level research in 5 different centers (Bilbao, Ottawa, Alicante, Braga and Donostia), publishing in high impact factor journals
and/or highly cited papers in all of them. He has been principal investigator of a competitive grant from the Spanish MINECO.

Recent years research has enabled him to establish international collaborations with worldclass researchers in the field, as Sebastian Loth (Max Planck, Hamburg), Cyrus Hirjibehedin
(UCL London) or Alexander F. Otte (TuDelf, Holland). During the PhD, he worked on fundamentals of Quantum Mechanics, and specially, on transients phenomena in individual quantum systems, with some applications in the field of ultra-cold gases and quantum dots. In his postdoctoral stay in Ottawa, he analyzed the electronic, transport and spin properties of networks of semiconductor quantum dots. More recently, he has worked on inelastic transport spectroscopy, simulating experiments with scanning tunneling microscopy where the spin excitations were probed. This allowed him to predict the appearance of atomic scale spin-transfer torque, spin-parity rules for this atomic spin torque, or the manipulation of magneto-crystalline anisotropy by exchange coupling to a
non-magnetic substrate.
Líneas de investigación:

  •  Charge and spin transport in semiconductor nanostructures. Electronic and magnetic properties.
  •  Decoherence and emergence of classical magnetism in open quantum systems: Coherent control and manipulation of the quantum states
  •  Spin polarized transport and related phenomena: spin transfer torque, spin filtering, spin currents
  • Thermoelectric properties in magnetic atomic/molecular contacts.
Code keywords: Magnetism; Spin chains; Quantum dots; Quantum information and associated physical effects; Kondo models; Transient effects; Electronic multiplets
