Seminar: «The effect of the different types of visas on international tourism»
On Tuesday, December 12th, the CajaCanarias Chair of Economics and Mobility at the University of La Laguna held a seminar at 12:30 pm entitled "The Effect of Different Types of Visa on International Tourism." The seminar was presented by Dr. María Santana Gallego, a tenured professor in the Department of Applied Economics at the University of the Balearic Islands, who is currently a research fellow at the Chair. The work was co-authored with Jaume Rosselló.

Data Science and Regional Development in the Canary Islands
The Chair of Economics and Mobility, in collaboration with the University Institute of Regional Development of the University of La Laguna, organized the conference "Data Science and Regional Development in the Canary Islands," which took place on Friday, November 10th in the Board Room of the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism.
The objective of this conference was to analyze the opportunities and challenges that this multidisciplinary approach, based on the ability to acquire, process and extract knowledge from large volumes of data, offers for the economic, social and environmental development of the Canary Islands.
The opening conference, “Data Science for Everyone,” was delivered by Melanie Calero Sánchez (CEO of Big Data Company and Chief Data and Analytics Officer of Toyota Spain). This was followed by a review of various applications of Data Science in the fields of transportation, healthcare (Canary Islands Health Service), water management (Canaragua), and public administration. Finally, the training opportunities available in the field of Data Science offered by the public universities of the Canary Islands were presented.

Researcher María Santana Gallego's stay
Professor María Santana Gallego, from the Department of Applied Economics at the University of the Balearic Islands, carried out a research stay at the Economics and Mobility Chair_CajaCanarias_ULL, located in the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism at the University of La Laguna, from November 9, 2023 to January 9, 2024.
The main objective of this visit is to advance the research projects “Globalization of flows of capital, people and ideas: A gender and institutional perspective” (Generalitat Valenciana CIACO/2021/006) and “New insights on the tourism demand modelling: socio-political barriers and drivers of international tourism” (PID2019-106738GB-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033). During her stay, she had the opportunity to participate in all the research activities carried out at the chair and to establish potential collaborative relationships with its members.

Researcher Ana María Cuadros Ramos's stay
Ana María Cuadros Ramos (director of the Institute of International Economics (iei.uji.es) and belonging to the Department of Economics of the Faculty of Legal and Economic Sciences. Universitat Jaume) has carried out a stay in the CajaCanarias Chair of Economics and Mobility, located in the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism of the University of La Laguna, from November 5 to 19, 2023.
During her stay, Professor Ana Cuadros had the opportunity to continue developing a research article with Professor María Santana within the framework of the research project: “Globalization of flows of capital, people and ideas: A gender and institutional perspective” (Generalitat Valenciana CIACO/2021/006). This visit also allowed for the exploration of potential collaborations between the Institute of International Economics (based at Universitat Jaume I) and the University Institute for Regional Development (University of La Laguna), to which the CajaCanarias Chair of Economics and Mobility at the University of La Laguna is affiliated.

Presentation of the results of the ULL mobility survey
As part of European Mobility Week, Rosa Marina González, director of the CajaCanarias-University of La Laguna Chair of Economics and Mobility, presented the results of a mobility survey conducted between January and February of this year among the university community on Tuesday, September 19. The data will be used to develop the university's future Sustainable Mobility Plan. The event was introduced by Candela Díaz, Vice-Rector for Sustainability and Infrastructure.

“Transportation Modeling. Some Ideas for the Future” Inaugural lecture of the XV Congress of Transportation Engineering
The conference “Transport Modeling. Some ideas for the future” was organized by the CajaCanarias ULL Chair of Economics and Mobility within the CIT2023 program.
Dr. Juan de Dios Ortúzar Salas is Professor Emeritus at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, an internationally renowned researcher who has collaborated with the University of La Laguna (ULL) for several decades. He has over 200 publications in indexed journals and book chapters, and his book "Modelling Transport" has been a landmark in the field of education, with its fifth (and final) edition due for release at the end of the year. He has also received prestigious awards such as the Humboldt Research Award and the Life Achievement Award from the International Association for Travel Behaviour Research, as well as an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Cantabria.

XV Congress of Transportation Engineering
The ULL-Fundación CajaCanarias Chair of Economics and Mobility and the University Institute for Regional Development of the ULL led the organization of the XV Congress of Transport Engineering (CIT 2023), which was held on June 14, 15, and 16, 2023. The congress venue was the Faculty of Economics, Business, and Tourism of the University of La Laguna, with the theme of “Innovation in motion.”.
This Congress is a national and international benchmark for the promotion and dissemination of scientific research and technological innovation in the transport sector, continuing the trajectory of the previous editions: Seville (1993), Madrid (1996), Barcelona (1998), Valencia (2000), Santander (2002), Zaragoza (2004), Ciudad Real (2006) A Coruña (2008), Madrid (2010), Granada (2012), Santander (2014), Valencia (2016), Gijón (2018) and Burgos (2021).
The Transport Engineering Forum (FIT) is the promoting entity of the Congress; a non-profit association that is responsible for convening and organizing the Congress as well as ensuring its quality and orientation.
The Congress had 260 registered participants and a total of 195 submitted papers. Eleven countries and 44 universities participated.

Is the European Central Bank's monetary policy effective?
On 16/03/2023 the Chair of Economics and Mobility-CajaCanarias, together with the Department of Economics, Accounting and Finance and the Research Center of Social Inequality and Governance – CEDESOG organized the seminar entitled: Is the European Central Bank's monetary policy effective? It was taught by Professor Carmen Díaz Roldán (University Professor in the Department of Economic Analysis and Finance, Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, University of Castilla-La Mancha), who undertook a research stay in collaboration with the CajaCanarias Chair of Economics and Mobility at the University of La Laguna, specifically at the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism where the aforementioned chair is located, from March 1st to March 17th (inclusive).

Monetary and fiscal policy interactions: The effects of inflation
Visit of Professor Carmen Díaz Roldán (University Professor of the Department of Economic Analysis and Finance, Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, University of Castilla-La Mancha) invited by the Chair of Economics and Mobility-CajaCanarias of the University of La Laguna, from March 1 to March 17.
During his stay, he carried out several research projects in collaboration with researchers from the chair, focusing on monetary policy rules and their integration into macroeconomic models. In addition, on March 10th, he led a seminar entitled “Interactions of Monetary and Fiscal Policy: The Effects of Inflation,” as a training activity for students enrolled in the second-year Macroeconomics I course of the Economics degree program. Furthermore, on March 16th, he delivered a lecture entitled “Is the European Central Bank’s Monetary Policy Effective?”, which was also organized by the Department of Economics, Accounting and Finance and CEDESOG.

Collaboration in the design and supervision of a mobility survey as part of the ULL Sustainable Mobility Plan
The CajaCanarias Chair of Economics and Mobility at the University of La Laguna collaborated in the design and supervision of the mobility survey, as part of the development of a Sustainable Mobility Plan, which was launched in January 2023. To encourage participation, two tablets were raffled among those who completed the online form before January 31. The devices were donated by the Cajacanarias Chair of Economics and Mobility, University of La Laguna.
This survey consisted of 82 questions divided into five sections: basic information, trip characteristics, willingness to carpool, environmental awareness, and information about private vehicles. A total of 2,713 people participated out of the 25,414 members of the university community at the time of the survey, representing a participation rate of 10.68%.
