Determinants of worldwide intercity air-passenger flows
Lecture given by María Santana Gallego from the Department of Applied Economics of the University of the Balearic Islands, who carried out a research stay at the CajaCanarias-ULL Chair of Economics and Mobility.
The analysis of international tourism demand has traditionally relied on bilateral data on aggregated national tourism flows, leaving the determinants of international tourism movements between regions largely unexplored. To address this gap, this study compiles a global database of air passenger flows at the regional and city levels using airport data.

Conference: "Futures and Opportunities of Urban Transport"«
As part of European Mobility Week, the Caja Canarias Chair of Economics and Mobility at the University of La Laguna, in collaboration with the CajaCanarias Foundation, is organizing the conference: 'Futures and Opportunities of Urban Transport', presented by Joaquín Botella y Malagón, Chief Technical Engineer Railways, SENER.
European Mobility Week is a campaign aimed at raising awareness among policymakers and citizens about the negative consequences of the irrational use of traditional cars – with combustion engines – in the city, both for public health and the environment, and promoting the benefits of using more sustainable modes of transport, such as public transport, cycling and walking.
The European Commission's chosen theme for 2024 is "Shared Public Space." Now in its 23rd edition, European Mobility Week aims to promote a shift in behavior towards active mobility, public transport, and other clean and smart transport solutions such as electric mobility. This year's campaign invites us to take action to improve public space in cities, ensuring that everyone can move around safely and comfortably in a pleasant environment, especially pedestrians and cyclists.
