Seminar "Research in Sustainable Transport"«

The CajaCanarias Chair of Economics and Mobility at the University of La Laguna organized a seminar on November 26, 2025, entitled: “Research in Sustainable Transport.” The presentations were:

  • “Sustainable Mobility in Tourist Areas: Analysis of preferences for the use of mobility packages” Presented by: Ms. Rosa Marina González Marrero Director of the CajaCanarias-ULL Chair of Economics and Mobility
  • “Data in motion: Key to sustainable mobility” Presented by: Mr. Guillermo Esquivel González, Service Management Technician at TITSA and PhD student in Mathematics and Statistics at the University of La Laguna
  • “Influence of environmental awareness on the decision to carpool among members of the university community” Presented by: Dr. Imanol Nieto González Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Economics and Quantitative Methods

Commission of the Pact for Sustainable Mobility of the Island Council of Tenerife

The Chair of Economics and Mobility participates in the Sustainable Mobility Pact Commission of the Tenerife Island Council. This commission was established in 2025 and held its first meeting in October. Three meetings have been held during 2025.

The mobility pact is a collaborative instrument without a contractual or binding nature.

Carpooling Day

As part of European Mobility Week, the Chair of Economics and Mobility launched a pilot program at the Faculty of Economics, Business, and Tourism. Held on September 18th, the program rewarded those arriving at #ULL in vehicles with two or more occupants with a reserved parking space in the front row.

The event was promoted by the CajaCanarias Chair of Economics and Mobility and the Faculty, and it was achieved that in certain time slots there was an occupancy of 80% of the space enabled for these vehicles.

Eulalia García, Councilor for Mobility, and Serafín Mesa, Councilor for Youth and Training of the Tenerife Island Council, attended to inquire about this activity.

Conference «Some case studies on Tourist and University Mobility in the Canary Islands»

Within the framework of European Mobility Week, the San Cristóbal de La Laguna City Council together with the CajaCanarias Chair of Economics and Mobility of the University of La Laguna organized a conference entitled "Some case studies on Tourist and University Mobility in the Canary Islands", which was given on Wednesday, September 17th at the "El Tranvía" Citizen Center (La Cuesta), venue of the V FES 2025 Conference "La Laguna Moves".

The Chair's director, Rosa Marina González Marrero, participated in the event with a lecture entitled "Some Case Studies on Tourist and University Mobility in the Canary Islands." In her presentation, she outlined the main findings from several research projects she has led, focusing on both tourist and university student mobility, and proposed various measures to achieve more sustainable mobility patterns in both contexts.

On May 28, 2025, the economic, social, and environmental impact study of the Metrotenerife tram network was presented. This study was prepared by Diego Crespo Pereira, lecturer and researcher at the University of A Coruña, and by Óscar De Gregorio Vicente, lecturer and researcher at the International University of La Rioja.

A macroeconomic model for the 21st century

On Thursday, May 8, 2025, the Conference entitled "A macroeconomic model for the 21st century" was held, given by Dr. Carmen Díaz Roldán, Professor of the Department of Economic Analysis and Finance of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences of the University of Castilla-La Mancha.

Stay in the chair of Professor Carmen Díaz Roldán

Ms. Carmen Díaz Roldán (University Professor of the Department of Economic Analysis and Finance, Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, University of Castilla-La Mancha) has carried out a stay at the University of La Laguna, specifically in the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism where the Chair of Economics and Mobility (CajaCanarias Foundation) is located, from April 21 to May 16.

During his stay, he conducted several research projects in collaboration with researchers from the chair, focusing on monetary policy rules and their integration into macroeconomic models. He also delivered a seminar on May 8, 2025, entitled “A Macroeconomic Model for the 21st Century.”.

Towards sustainable mobility in Tenerife: Conclusions and proposals from the Smart City Model

The CajaCanarias-University of La Laguna Chair of Economics and Mobility organized on March 6th, in the Graduation Hall of the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism, the conference entitled: "Towards Sustainable Mobility in Tenerife: Conclusions and Proposals from the Smart City Model" given by Dr. Florentino de Guzmán Plasencia Medina.

Economic Outlook 2025

The CajaCanarias Chair of Economics and Mobility at the University of La Laguna organized the conference 'Economic Outlook 2025' on March 21st in the Lecture Hall of the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism, which was given by Dr. David Cova.

David Cova holds a PhD in Economics, has taught at the Faculty of Economics of the University of La Laguna, and has extensive experience as a manager at CajaCanarias, where he served as CEO. He has also been the General Delegate for the Canary Islands Regional Office of CaixaBank and a member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Association of Managers in the Canary Islands.

Public transport network design

The University Institute for Regional Development of the University of La Laguna and the CajaCanarias-University of La Laguna Chair of Economics and Mobility organized the conference: "Design of Public Transport Networks," given by Professor and Honorary Researcher at the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Seville, Dr. Juan Antonio Mesa López-Colmenar. This event took place on Friday, February 14th at 12:00 pm in the Leonor Hernández Benitez Room of the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism.
