Although native to the laurel forest, it can adapt to other vegetation zones. Its leaves are usually small (no more than 5 cm long), although larger ones can be found depending on humidity and shade conditions. They are simple, tough, and have an ovate to ovate-elliptic blade with entire margins, though they may sometimes have a few small spines.
