On le reconna\u00eet \u00e0 ses jeunes branches et \u00e0 ses p\u00e9tioles rouge\u00e2tres. Dans les for\u00eats denses, il tombe fr\u00e9quemment, cr\u00e9ant des trou\u00e9es dans la canop\u00e9e qu&#039;il comble rapidement en enracinant ses branches tomb\u00e9es et en colonisant de nouveaux espaces. Ses feuilles, vert fonc\u00e9, ovales-lanc\u00e9ol\u00e9es et coriaces, pr\u00e9sentent des bords dentel\u00e9s et une nervure centrale l\u00e9g\u00e8rement cannel\u00e9e. Les branches et les feuilles sont dispos\u00e9es dans un m\u00eame plan. Les fleurs blanches sont regroup\u00e9es en grappes allong\u00e9es et dress\u00e9es. Les fruits sont ovales et noir violac\u00e9.
