Preliminary information systems

Pre-registration phase

Potentially interested individuals will be informed about the program's features, access and admission criteria, and the administrative procedure for admission and enrollment through the usual channels and within the doctoral program offerings: online channels, posters, media outlets, institutional social media, and other official channels.

The university also has an Information and Orientation Service (IOS), which is the office dedicated to providing information, advice, and guidance to prospective students on matters related to their education and university life, as well as directing them to the appropriate offices with any more specific requests. Welcome and orientation of new arrivals

The Doctoral School will offer a welcome day for new students, as well as information sessions on specific topics of interest. All students are also enrolled in a virtual classroom for notifications and a communication channel.
Students will also attend a program presentation session led by the coordinator of the University of La Laguna's academic committee and will be included in a virtual classroom for the program.
In the Doctoral School Website There are several links with information on all the necessary procedures for completing a doctoral thesis, as well as the related forms. Of particular importance for new students may be the page containing all the regulations for doctoral studies.

Internal Quality Assurance Service of the University of La Laguna

As a guarantee of the quality of teaching, its improvement, and the protection of the rights of students and faculty, the degree program is governed by specific regulations regarding dissemination mechanisms within the University of La Laguna's Internal Quality Assurance System.

Admission requirements

To access any of the ULL's doctoral programs, you must meet the requirements established in Article 5 of the Regulations for Official Doctoral Studies at the University of La Laguna.

Admission profile

The admissions profile required for this doctoral program is as follows: The undergraduate degree must have a legal content of at least 120 ECTS credits and the Master's degree (or the alternative degree that served as an access route within those listed in Article 6.2 of Royal Decree 99/2011) must have been obtained in the field of legal sciences, for which the minimum threshold is established at 45 ECTS credits of legal content. The Academic Committee may, exceptionally, admit students to the program who have completed at least 108 ECTS credits of legal content in their undergraduate studies.

Students with specific educational support needs

In compliance with Royal Decree 99/2011, of January 28, regulating official doctoral programs, a specific program is in place to assist students with specific educational support needs to promote their educational and social integration. Admission criteria

As established in Article 6 of the ULL Doctoral Regulations, the academic committee may establish criteria for the selection and admission of students. In the case of this program, the following criteria will be applied to evaluate applications:

– Students who have completed a master's degree with a minimum of 45 ECTS credits of legal content (or comparable by agreement of the Academic Committee): 4 points.

– Academic record of the entrance qualification and master's degree (up to 8 points), with up to four points being awarded for the grades in the degree and another four points for the grades in the postgraduate degree, in accordance with the average grade obtained in each qualification.

– Research merits (up to 2 points). To objectivize this criterion, the following scores will be applied:

a) Publications and works, regardless of their physical medium, whose acceptance for publication is reliably accredited and which are related to the lines of research of the Doctoral Program:

  1. For each book: up to 0.5 points.
  2. For each article or review: up to 0.25 points.
  3. For each conference presentation: up to 0.15 points.

b) Having enjoyed collaboration or predoctoral scholarships: up to 1 point.

c) Having enjoyed Erasmus scholarships: up to 0.5 points.

– Professional merits related to the research lines of the Doctoral Program: up to 1 point, at a rate of 0.5 points per year of accredited experience.

– Foreign language proficiency: up to 3 points, at a rate of 1 point for each B2 level of languages relevant to legal research (including German, French, Italian, and Portuguese), or 2 points for proficiency in any of the aforementioned languages at level C1 or higher.

Body in charge of the admission process.

The body responsible for the admissions process is the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program in Law at the University of La Laguna.

Training supplements

The ULL Doctoral Regulations establish that admission to doctoral programs may include specific additional training requirements, in line with the admission profiles established for the corresponding doctoral program. These specific additional training requirements will be considered doctoral-level training for the purposes of public fees and the awarding of scholarships and grants.

Depending on the student's admission profile, the Academic Committee will decide which training supplements the student should take, taking into account the following list.

A) Students with a bachelor's degree with at least 120 legal credits and a master's degree with at least 45 legal credits, who can demonstrate training in research activities. These students are not required to take additional training courses.

B) Students with a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 120 legal credits and a Master's degree with a minimum of 45 legal credits, but without training in introductory research activities. These students must complete a maximum of 6 ECTS credits in methodological subjects from the complementary training courses.

C) Students with a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 120 credits of legal content, whose master's degrees do not reach 45 credits in legal subjects. These students must complete the remaining ECTS credits through training complements.
