  • The syllabus designed for the qualification of Graduate in Accounting and Finance (GCYF, as it is known in Spanish) recognises human rights (equality between men and women, culture of democracy, peace and universal accessibility of the disabled) and the professional ethical code of best practises. The qualification provides theoretical and practical education for acquiring a set of professional abilities and skills for exercising any job with intermediate or higher levels of responsibility in business and in the public administrations. This includes abilities such as economic reasoning, the use of economic information, a capacity for analysis and synthesis, knowledge of the economic and institutional environment, knowledge of business, the use of quantitative techniques and information and communication technologies.

    Specific Skills
    • 1) Economics: understand the principles of micro-economic and macro-economic theory
    • 2) Law: understand civil, mercantile, financial, tax, employment legislation and the tax situation of a company
    • 3) Accounting
    • a) Knowing the accounts as an information system in the company Formulate and interpret financial statements Analyse costs and inventory management
    • b) Analyse the economic and financial situation of a company, propose corrective actions and identify business opportunities
    • c) Issue technical accounting and financial reports, reports on appraising companies, feasibility plans, budgets and audits
    • d) Understand corporate accounting: constituting and increasing capital, debenture emissions, distribution of earnings, business combinations, insolvencies, bankruptcies and settlements Understand the accounting of financial instruments
    • 4) Finance: Understand the financial system, institutions, instruments, markets, investment and risk analysis models
    • 5) Business
    • a) Know the characteristics of a business
    • b) Design and roll out information systems in a company
    • c) Develop leadership abilities and know-how
    • d) Apply project management techniques
    • e) Know and understand the sales area of the company and take marketing decisions
    • 6) Quantitative methods: mathematical and statistical tools for economic and financial analysis
    • 7) Language: communication in Spanish and English in professional practise

At a general level, and based on the characteristics and objectives of these studies, new students should demonstrate the following characteristics: interest in topics relating to the business world, economics, finance and society. You should show enthusiam for subjects containing quantitative data, identifying problems, analysing the situations that produce said problems and finding solutions for them. You should also demonstrate an ability to communicate well and work as part of a team. You must be open to accepting new ideas, be able to show initiative and be proactive when it comes to discovering ideas for yourself or interacting with others. You must also be capable of grasping new concepts, critical thinking, and developing creative solutions to problems, whilst possessing a clear overview of the world.
