  • A Degree in Technical Architecture qualifies graduates to exercise the profession of Technical Architect. The attributes are regulated by law and supervised by the Official Colleges of Quantity Surveyors, Technical Architects and Building Engineers. This qualification qualifies graduates to engage in multiple activities in the material execution of building Works, with a broad knowledge of materials, kinds of construction and construction processes, together with the economic and organisational aspects of building works, safety and quality, among others. Graduates may practise as professional architects or work in the Administration and Public Bodies, in private companies or in teaching

    General Skills
    • Know how to materially carry out a building work
    • Know the functions and responsibilities of the parties intervening in the building work and their organisation
    • Knowledge of the business structure related to the profession
    • Knowledge of the administrative management and processing procedures
    • Knowledge of the profession and how professional work is organised in studios, offices, companies, public bodies and technical control bodies
    • Capacity to accept the responsibility of supervising a working group, assign jobs and resources (leadership and teamwork)
    • Communication, conflict resolution, negotiating skills (human resource management) and demand for technical information
    • Awareness of the sustainable use of resources
    • Aptitude to properly interpret and draw up technical documentation in a foreign language
    • Applied knowledge of the principles of general mechanics, structural systems statics, mass geometry, the principles and methods of analysing the elastic behaviour of solids
    • Knowledge of the chemical characteristics of the materials used in the construction and their elaboration process, the methodology of the trials run to determine their characteristics, their geological origin, the environmental impact, recycling and management of waste
    • Adequate knowledge of the concept of business, production systems, costs, planning and elaboration of financial plans and budgets. Capacity to organise small companies and to take part as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in a large company
    • Basic knowledge of the legal system of the Public Administrations and the procedures of government and private procurement

    Specific Skills
    • Ability to interpret and elaborate the graphic documentation of a project, compile data, draw plans and the geometric control of units of work
    • Knowledge of the topographical instrumentation, graphical survey of sites, buildings and how to mark them out on the ground
    • Knowledge of construction materials: kind and suitability for the planned use, managing reception, quality control, use for building, monitoring execution and running trials and final tests
    • Aptitude for identifying building systems, defining their function, compatibility and installation. Consider and resolve building details
    • Capacity to diagnose and intervene in building injuries and pathologies
    • Aptitude for engaging in the refurbishment, restoration and conservation of the built heritage
    • Capacity to manage maintenance in buildings
    • Knowledge of the environmental impact assessment, sustainability and energy efficiency of buildings
    • Aptitude to design, calculate and build structures
    • Capacity to monitor, check and execution of trials, receive and later maintain the installations of a building
    • Capacity to programme and organise building processes, both for the construction and maintenance
    • Knowledge and application of the legislation and regulations in health and safety matters in building work
    • Capacity to manage quality control in building works and to keep the building log
    • Knowledge and application of regulations concerning accessibility in buildings and their surroundings
    • Capacity to draw up budgets and analyse and control costs
    • Aptitude for conducting market studies, assessments and appraisals, real estate feasibility studies, surveying and damage assessments in the building trade
