    Specific Skills
    • Useful command of the English language, both orally and in written form (MCER level C1)
    • Independent linguistic and comparative knowledge of English phonology, grammar, semantics and pragmatics, along with a diachronic understanding of the English language
    • A working knowledge of the main levels of formality, style and regional variations of the English language in order to write different texts
    • A working knowledge of the theoretical basis of linguistic analysis in its application to the English language in order to solve problems and perform structural analyses
    • Instrumental management of the direct and inverse translation methods between English and Spanish
    • A working knowledge of the most important ideological, cultural and literary movements and the authors of the English-speaking world and their works
    • A knowledge of the main historical events and institutions of the Anglophone countries
    • Handling of the most relevant concepts, methods and approaches for the critical and stylistic analysis of literary works and cultural movements of the Anglophone countries
    • Ability to analyse literary texts in the English language from a comparative perspective
    • Ability to present conclusions and opinions in both oral and written form to a specialised and non-specialised audience
    • Ability to integrate aspects of English Studies and relate them to other disciplines and areas
    • Ability to find, assess and use relevant information for English Studies from different sources and in different formats, and to use it in the appropriate formative process
    • Ability to analyse and synthesise complex documents in the English language
    • Ability to identify problems and topics for research or for enhancing knowledge in the areas covered by the degree
    • Ability to take part in debates in English and to pose critical questions about other people’s presentations

Students wishing to undertake this degree must show particular interest in: the English language and learning foreign languages, reading and writing, human thought and other cultures, which often differ to western culture, demonstrating good verbal and written expression, critical thought and logical reasoning, abstract reasoning skills and the ability to summarize information, all from a scientific and professional stance, being well-organized and consistent in your work
