Specific Training Certificate in Emerging Viruses. Basic Level

Access and admission

Access

In order to access the studies leading to the obtaining of own degrees at the undergraduate level, the necessary requirements for access to university studies must be met in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement 7/CG 27-06-2017 approving the Regulations for University of La Laguna's Own Degrees.

Those who meet the following requirements will be able to access the studies and obtain the Master's degree:

  • Hold an official university degree, another degree expressly declared equivalent, or an official university degree obtained in accordance with university education systems prior to that established in Royal Decree 1393/2007, of October 29 (BOE No. 260, of October 30).
  • Hold a bachelor's degree from the ULL, or equivalent from another university, with a minimum duration of 120 ECTS credits. In this case, the student will be able to access master's studies but will not receive the degree. If the student passes the assessment for all subjects of the degree, they may apply for a Specific Training Certificate.
  • Proof of having earned at least 180 ECTS credits corresponding to official undergraduate studies. In this case, the student must have completed their undergraduate studies before applying for a master's degree. If the student does not complete their official undergraduate studies and applies for a master's degree, they will obtain a Specific Training Certificate.
  • Those who can demonstrate professional experience in the field of activities related to the degree's own qualification of at least two years. In this case, the student will be able to access the master's degree but will not obtain the qualification. If the student passes the assessment for all the subjects of the degree, they may apply for the Specific Training Certificate. The Vice-Rector's Office responsible for specific qualifications will verify the professional experience of these students and authorize their admission.

As a general rule, those who meet the following requirements will be able to access the studies and obtain the Diploma of Specialization, University Expert, or Specific Training Certificate:

a) Those established in the previous section for master's degrees.

b) Those who pass a specific entrance exam, for which the director of the university's own degree will be responsible, in which the student will demonstrate that they possess the basic knowledge necessary to successfully complete the university's own degree. The academic director must have included this access system in the application form for the degree and will inform the responsible Vice-Rectorate of the students who have passed this exam in order for them to be admitted.

As a specific rule for access to FCD-ULL, the same access requirements will be considered as those for access to the PDI Training Plan of the University of La Laguna.

Those who can prove they hold a recognized foreign higher education degree or one equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish undergraduate degree will also have access to studies leading to ULL's own postgraduate degrees. For this purpose, recognition of said degree is not required, but prior verification that it qualifies in the country of issue for access to postgraduate studies.

In cases where students do not meet the entry requirements but still wish to pursue the course, they may do so. However, upon completion, they will not receive a university degree. Instead, they will receive a certificate of attendance and completion of a training course detailing the subject matter, content, and hours completed. This certificate will be issued by the Vice-Rector's Office responsible for managing university-specific degrees.

Likewise, students who only wish to take one or more subjects from a university-specific degree will be admitted, provided there are available places. In these cases, students will receive a certificate of attendance and achievement issued by the Vice-Rector's Office responsible for managing university-specific degrees for each subject taken.

Admission and scale

As we already announced in Section 1.8, the number of places assigned by student type is as follows:
Types of students Typology
Active healthcare workers (75%) 57
Health workers on strike (15%) 12
ULL Master's/PhD Students (5%) 6
The fundamental principles for the admission of students are the following:
  • A pre-registration process will be launched to assess demand in each category, sort applications, and initiate the enrollment process to fill the quotas in the most organized manner possible.
  • The allocation of places in each category will strictly follow the order of temporary applications submitted to the electronic pre-registration registry during the designated time period.
  • In the event that demand exceeds supply, selection will be made based on the following criteria:
    • Academic transcript grade: up to 4 points maximum
    • Professional experience: 1 point (less than 1 year); 2 points (1-3 years); 3 points (more than 3 years).
    • In the event of a tie, the order of temporary application will be considered.
  • If there are vacancies in each category, they will be distributed proportionally to the number of applications pending.
  • Verification of eligibility for each category will be carried out for the publication of the list of those admitted.
  • To ensure the best use of their training, placement will ensure that students have received basic training at the undergraduate or graduate level in the areas of microbiology, genomics, immunology, and cellular biology.
  • The categories of active healthcare professionals include graduates in Medicine, Biology, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, and similar university qualifications who work in healthcare centers, Public Health, Research Centers, and Universities.
  • The categories of unemployed healthcare professionals include graduates in Medicine, Biology, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, and similar university qualifications who work in the healthcare field and are unemployed (registered with the unemployment office).
  • In these two categories of healthcare professionals, applications will be prioritized in the following order: Medicine, Biology, Biotechnology, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and other degrees.
  • The student category includes students enrolled in official doctoral or master's programs at the ULL related to Health Sciences or Biology. In this category, priority will be given to applications from doctoral students, followed by master's students. Exceptionally, in the case of vacancies in all categories, applications from final-year undergraduate students studying Medicine, Biology, or Pharmacy may be accepted. In these cases, Article 6, Section 5 of the ULL's Regulations for Own Degrees will apply.
  • Any request that may cause confusion will be evaluated individually by the course's academic committee.
