Emerging technologies and digital business models for logistics and transport

Emerging technologies and digital business models for logistics and transport

Overview

To train students in the understanding and application of emerging technologies linked to the digitalization of transport and logistics, analyzing the impact of tools such as artificial intelligence, the internet of things, 5G, big data, blockchain or robotics, and their use for data analysis, decision making and the development of innovative digital business models in highly connected environments.

Goals

To train students in the competence of understanding and applying emerging technologies in the digitalization of transport and logistics, identifying the impact of artificial intelligence, the internet of things, 5G, big data, blockchain or robotics in logistics processes, analyzing data to support decisions and exploring innovative digital business models in highly connected environments.

Access requirements

A university degree is not required, but the following requirements must be met:

  • Be between 25 and 64 years old on the date the training begins.
  • To hold an official Spanish Baccalaureate degree or equivalent professional certificate, or other equivalent qualification issued by an institution of a Member State of the European Education Area.
  • Individuals with a degree from an educational system outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) may also be admitted, even without official recognition or equivalence. In these cases, the academic director will submit a report to the Academic Committee, which will authorize or deny admission. This authorization does not imply official recognition of the foreign degree or its validation for any other purpose.
  • Have a National Identity Document or equivalent document that proves residence permit in Spain, at least during the period in which the microcredential is developed.
  • Admission will be granted in order of registration until the maximum number of places is filled, with priority given to students who have previously completed the micro-credential course "Fundamentals of Digitalization and Digital Transformation". If places remain vacant at the end of the pre-registration period, the micro-credential management may open an extraordinary pre-registration period, setting the deadline it deems appropriate.

Academic program

Contents

The micro-credential guides students from understanding agile methodologies to developing innovation projects and digital transformation plans adapted to transport and logistics organizations.

  • Business intelligence and analytics: Basic concepts of business intelligence and advanced analytics in logistics environments; use of data to support decisions.
  • 5G and data transmission technologies: High-speed, low-latency communications and real-time transmission applied to transportation and fleet management.
  • Artificial intelligence: AI applications in route optimization, demand forecasting, predictive maintenance, and process automation.
  • Internet of Things (IoT): sensors, connected devices and continuous monitoring of goods, vehicles and infrastructure.
  • Blockchain: traceability, security and trust in the supply chain and in information exchanges.
  • Big Data: Management and interpretation of large volumes of logistics data; opportunities and challenges.
  • Virtual and augmented reality: support for operations, training and maintenance in logistics and transport contexts.
  • Robotics: warehouse automation, autonomous vehicles, robotic systems in logistics and transport.

Methodology and activities

Regarding the way to organize the teaching to achieve the objectives set out in the micro-credential, the organizational modality summarized below will be followed:

  • Lectures/expository method: presentation or explanation by the teaching staff.
  • Seminars: completing exercises, solving problems or practical cases, others.
  • Individual work: individual preparation of assignments/projects/reports, portfolio, …
  • Personal study: preparation for tests, exams, etc.
  • Assessment: written tests, oral tests, practical tests, …

Evaluation criteria

Continuous assessment through objective online tests (SE1) to verify key concepts and resolution of practical cases and problems (SE5) in which students apply the emerging technologies studied to the analysis of real or simulated situations in logistics and transport.
