Overview

This micro-credential aims to deepen understanding of service-learning (SL) from both a theoretical and practical perspective, promoting critical analysis of educational realities. It also seeks to develop the skills necessary to design, implement, and evaluate SL projects that address specific needs in various contexts. Finally, it guides participants in the development and drafting of an outline and a comprehensive SL project aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Goals

  • To delve deeper into service-learning, from theory, analysis of one's own reality, and educational practice,
  • Develop skills for the design, implementation and evaluation of a Service-Learning project that responds to the needs identified in a specific area.
  • Develop and draft the outline and project of inclusive Service-Learning based on the SDGs.

Access requirements

Students must be between 25 and 64 years old on the date the training begins.

A university degree is not required to access this micro-credential. However, students wishing to access it must meet the following access requirements:

This micro-credential is aimed at individuals interested in designing, coordinating, or implementing Service-Learning (SL) projects in various educational and social contexts. The entry profile includes:

  • Teachers at all educational levels, from early childhood education to higher education, including vocational training and adult education, who wish to apply active methodologies with social impact.
  • University students, especially from areas related to education, social sciences, health, cooperation, the environment or citizen participation, interested in acquiring applied and community training, over 25 years of age.
  • Technical staff and managers of public entities, especially in areas such as education, youth, social services, participation or environment, who are looking for tools for networking and community development.
  • Technical staff and managers of third sector entities (NGOs, associations, social or cultural groups) who wish to collaborate with educational centers and universities in service-learning projects.

1. The content of this unit is the written document of the project that the participant wants to carry out, for which he will recover and break down the project outline that he prepared in the introductory course to Service-Learning.

Module 3. Conceptual bases on the design phases of a service-learning project.

1. Project planning by the educator.

2. Preparation and execution with the group of boys and girls.

3. The evaluation.

Module 4. Building and writing an inclusive service-learning project based on the SDGs.

Structure and contents

The content of this unit is the written document of the project that the participant wants to carry out, for which they will recover and break down the project outline that they prepared in the introductory Service-Learning course.

Methodology and activities

The training activities to be carried out during the delivery of the micro-credential will be:

  • Theoretical classes: expository, explanatory or demonstration sessions of the contents and knowledge.
  • Work: preparation of a study, essay, work… proposed in the subject, either individually or in a group following established guidelines.
  • Independent work: independent and self-regulated activity of the student based on the documentation and guidelines proposed in the subject, preparation of classes and exams, preparation of final reports, internship reports…
  • Presentations, debates and defenses of works and projects: activity through which students present works, exercises, projects… based on established criteria, demonstrating sufficiency and maturity in the acquisition of the planned competencies.
  • Tutoring (individual, group…): activity in which the teaching staff attends to, facilitates and guides one or more students in the training process.
  • Assessment: continuous assessment tests and final exams. Tests may be in person or online, and may be written, oral, or consist of practical exercises.

Regarding the way to organize the teaching to achieve the objectives set out in the micro-credential, the organizational modality summarized below will be followed:

  • Lectures/expository method: presentation or explanation by the teaching staff.
  • Seminars: completing exercises, solving problems or practical cases, others.
  • Individual work: individual preparation of assignments/projects/reports, portfolio, 
  • Personal study: preparation for tests, exams, etc.
  • Assessment: written tests, oral tests, practical tests, …
  • Tutoring: instruction period in which teachers and students interact with the aim of reviewing and discussing materials and topics presented in class.
  • Exhibitions, debates and presentation of works and projects: activities supervised by the teaching staff.

Evaluation criteria

The microcredential will have an evaluation system (ES) based on the following assessment tests:

  • Attendance, participation, and attitude in teaching activities, seminars, tutorials, etc.: Active participation in webinars, forum contributions, and responses to online tutorials. Commitment, a reflective attitude, and involvement with the community will be valued.
  • Oral presentation and defense of work: Presentation of the ApS project outline in the last webinar, with exchange and discussion with the group and the teaching staff.
  • Portfolios, diaries, notebooks or practices, etc.: Students will create individual portfolios that collect evidence of their learning process: commented readings, reflections, tasks and summaries of the content covered in the units.
