Overview

This micro-credential empowers students to design, manage, and energize virtual classrooms on the Moodle platform, providing the necessary knowledge about essential resources and tools to create online learning environments to support teaching.

Goals

Acquire the skills to design, manage and energize virtual classrooms on the Moodle platform, providing students with knowledge about the essential resources and tools to create an online learning environment as a means and support for teaching.

Access requirements

It will be necessary:

  • To hold an official Spanish university degree or another degree issued by a higher education institution of the European Higher Education Area that qualifies for access to master's studies.
  • Holding a foreign degree issued by an educational system outside the EHEA. In this case, the academic director will issue a report to the Academic Committee, which will authorize or deny access without this implying validation or recognition for other purposes.
  • Being a teaching and research staff member of the University of La Laguna.
  • Be between 25 and 64 years of age on the date the training begins.

Contents

The microcredential course progressively addresses the design, configuration, and pedagogical use of the Moodle virtual classroom, from understanding the environment to managing resources and activities with students. The theoretical and practical content of the course includes:

  • Virtual learning environment. Access to the virtual environment. Structure and models of the virtual classroom.
  • Virtual classroom configuration (settings, editing, users, backup, …)
  • Virtual classroom resources (labels, files, folders, …) to present and communicate teaching content.
  • Virtual classroom tools (forum, assignment, groups, …) to develop individual, group and collaborative activities.

Methodology and activities

The proposed methodology is Project-Based Learning (PBL) or task-based learning. The aim of this approach is to foster independent work and self-directed learning among students, starting from their area of interest. Learning will be supported by guided study, tutoring sessions, and access to video lessons. Regarding the organization of instruction to achieve the objectives outlined in the micro-credential, the organizational model summarized below will be followed:

• Lectures/expository method: presentation or explanation by the teaching staff.

• Practical classes: activities supervised by the teaching staff in the classroom, laboratories, clinics.

• Individual work: individual preparation of assignments/projects/reports, portfolio, …

• Tutoring: instruction period in which teachers and students interact with the aim of reviewing and discussing materials and topics presented in class.

• Active methodologies.

Evaluation criteria

Case studies, exercises and problems: tests in which students must solve, in a reasoned manner, within a certain time, and according to the established criteria, the cases, exercises or problems posed by the teaching staff, with the aim of applying the knowledge acquired.
