OFFER OF OWN DEGREES FOR THE 2025-2026 ACADEMIC YEAR

Issuance of title

Instructions

Having already completed some Postgraduate Courses or Programs at the University of La Laguna, it is appropriate to issue the following instructions for the application of the aforementioned regulations, in order to achieve greater administrative efficiency in everything related to the issuance of University of La Laguna's Own Degrees.

I.- Competence

The Rector, on behalf of the University of La Laguna, will issue the University's own degrees corresponding to the courses taught in the "Master's Programs" and "Specialization Courses" that have been authorized by the Governing Board.

II.- Scope of application

Royal Decree 1496/87, of November 6, establishes a distinction between:

  1. Official titles that are official and valid throughout the national territory.
  2. Remaining Diplomas and Degrees issued by Public Universities in which the specific academic and territorial effects of official Degrees do not apply.

This instruction refers only to the latter, that is, the University of La Laguna's own degrees, which are not officially recognized or valid throughout the country. These degrees do not have full academic validity nor do they qualify for professional practice.

The University of La Laguna's own degrees are Master's and Specialization courses, which are obtained after completing either a Master's program with a course load of no less than 200 hours, or a Postgraduate Specialization course, and whose duration is, in no case, less than one academic year. For the degree to be considered as a University of La Laguna own degree, the Program or Postgraduate Course must be authorized by the Governing Board of the University of La Laguna, and its tuition fees must be approved by the Social Council.

III.- Procedure

Electronic Office – Application for Issuance of Own Title

Required documentation:

  • Request to initiate the procedure
  • NIF, or in the case of foreigners, NIE and Passport, valid
  • Title of access to the Own Title

IV.- Duplicates

The university degree, as a public document, cannot be modified, altered, or amended. Any modification to a degree due to a change of name, nationality, etc., will require the cancellation of the original degree and the issuance of a duplicate. A duplicate will also be issued in the event of loss, destruction, or damage to the degree.

For the issuance of duplicate titles, the following procedure will be followed:

1) If they are duplicates due to change of name, nationality, etc.

  • Application from the interested party addressed to the Rector explaining the situation and attaching an official certificate from the competent body, stating the cost of such change of name, surname, nationality, etc.
  • You must pay the fee for issuing a duplicate when the reason for the modification of the text is attributable to the interested party.
  • The original Title will also be attached to the file, in order to proceed with its cancellation.
  • The documents must be submitted to the University's Degree Office.
  • The duplicate will be issued following the ordinary procedure.

2) If it is a duplicate due to loss, destruction or deterioration.

  • Application from the interested party to the Rector explaining the problem.
  • Proof of payment of the fee for issuing duplicates. The interested party is the cause of the deterioration, loss or destruction.
  • The damaged Title or the part of it that remains.
  • Photocopy of the original file.
  • If it is only due to loss, the file begins at the University's Degree Office and will consist of the following documents:
  • Photocopy of the original file.
  • Application from the interested party requesting a duplicate.
  • Duplicate fee receipt if the cause of the loss is attributable to the interested party.

To insert an advertisement in the BOE, the following procedure is followed:

  1. The Securities Department prepares a written notice containing all the details of the Securities and the interested party, and sends it to the Public Service of the Official State Gazette (BOE).
  2. This service sends the interested party a quote for the cost of placing such an advertisement.
  3. Once accepted and paid by postal order, it is published.
  4. The payment for publication in the Official State Gazette (BOE) is made by whoever caused the loss.

Once the duplicate has been issued, the original degree or the remaining part of it will be destroyed by the University, and this destruction will be duly communicated to the University Registry of Own Degrees.
