Competencies

Basic and General Competencies

One of the purposes of university-specific degrees is to contribute to lifelong learning from a university perspective. In this sense, the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) constitutes a reference for promoting lifelong learning. In line with this framework, postgraduate degrees guarantee, as a minimum, the following knowledge, skills, and competences, corresponding to EQF level 7:

CB1. Students will possess and understand highly specialized knowledge, some of it cutting-edge in a specific field of work or study, which lays the foundation for original thinking or research.

CB2. That students acquire critical awareness of knowledge issues in a specific field and at the point of articulation between different fields.

CB3. That students develop specialized skills for problem-solving in research or innovation, with a view to developing new knowledge and procedures, and integrating knowledge in various fields.

CB4. Students should be able to manage and transform complex and unpredictable work or study contexts that require new strategic approaches.

CB5. That students are able to assume responsibilities regarding the development of knowledge and/or professional practices and the review of the strategic performance of teams.

CB6: That students maintain an ethical commitment to the patient, as well as a social commitment to the plurality and diversity of today's society, respect for fundamental rights and equality between men and women.

Specific competencies

Pharmacotherapeutic Monitoring in the Pharmacy Office. I
CE1
Carry out pharmaceutical care activities in the community pharmacy.
CE2
Know the safe use of medications, taking into account any risks associated with their administration.
CE3
Acquire the necessary skills to provide therapeutic advice on pharmacotherapy and medical devices to users of the establishments where they provide services.
CE4
Participate in health promotion, disease prevention, and pharmacotherapeutic monitoring activities, both at the individual and family levels, as well as at the community level, with a comprehensive and multidisciplinary view of the disease-treatment process.
Pharmacotherapeutic Monitoring in the Pharmacy Office. II
CE1
Detect problems of ineffectiveness or insecurity due to lack of adherence to pharmacological treatment, as well as develop protocols to increase adherence
CE2
Identify and evaluate medication-related problems in polymedicated geriatric patients.
CE3
To understand, identify, and evaluate errors in the reconciliation of pharmacological treatments, as well as to assess proposals that promote coordination between different levels of care, taking advantage of the electronic prescription program.
CE4
Evaluate the adverse effects of medications and their clinical relevance.

The Pharmacy Office and the International Traveler.
CE1
Know and be able to communicate basic hygiene and health recommendations to international travelers.
CE2
Know the main diseases transmitted by mosquitoes and how to prevent them.
CE3
Apply knowledge about vaccines to resolve questions and concerns for international travelers.

The Pharmacy Office and parasitic diseases.

CE1
Know and communicate the risks of acquiring parasitic diseases due to food consumption and how to prevent them.

CE2
Understand and communicate the risks of acquiring parasitic diseases caused by contact with pets and how to prevent them.
CE3
To understand and communicate the most relevant information regarding the main ectoparasites affecting humans in the Canary Islands, as well as their prevention and control methods.
CE4
Understand and communicate the risks associated with imported tropical diseases detected in the Canary Islands, as well as their prevention and control methods.

Food supplements, emerging drugs and food-drug interactions.
CE1
Learn about the main dietary supplements, as well as their labeling and presentation standards and the legislation applicable to them.
CE2
Understand the concept of emerging drugs, their consumption habits, and their effects on health.
CE3
Know the effect due to the interaction of foods and medicinal plants with medications
