General information

The Double Degree in History and Art History offers a comprehensive education that articulates two closely related disciplines, united by common scientific objectives and complementary analysis methods. Its design responds to the recent evolution of both areas of knowledge and the growing social demand for professionals capable of critically interpreting the past and its cultural expressions.

Through this academic pathway, students develop a deep understanding of historical processes and the artistic manifestations that accompany them, exploring the social, cultural, and aesthetic dynamics that have shaped the diversity of human societies throughout time. The program combines the study of historical processes with the analysis of art, giving special importance to both and recognizing the cultural dimension as key to interpreting both the past and the present.

Given the characteristics and objectives of these studies, it would be desirable for future students to have a defined educational and vocational perspective in the field of knowledge of history and the artistic manifestations of humanity, to demonstrate concern for their cultural environment, and to have a capacity for observation and analysis of the problems and challenges of today's world. Fluent oral and written expression is also important.

In short, students of the double degree in History and Art History should demonstrate an interest in the past and in the social, economic, political, and cultural evolution of humanity, in the problems of the current world and its major challenges, in strengthening their command of oral and written language, and in having knowledge of other languages (preferably English).

The Double Degree in History and Art History provides a solid and versatile education, enabling students to develop their professional careers in a wide variety of fields related to research, teaching, cultural management, and heritage conservation.

Thanks to their comprehensive training, graduates will be able to access career opportunities such as teaching in secondary education, high school, and university (the double degree provides added value in competitive examinations), upon completion of the corresponding Master's degree, as well as activities related to historical, archaeological, and artistic-cultural research. They will have the basic training to develop their professional activity in the protection, conservation, management, and dissemination of historical, archaeological, and artistic heritage, both in public institutions and in the private sector.

The dual training program also opens up professional opportunities in museums, archives, libraries, documentation centers, film libraries, cultural foundations, and public administrations, as well as in urban planning projects, heritage cataloging, technical consulting, and cultural tourism and heritage interpretation programs. It also offers opportunities in publishing, the production and dissemination of historical and artistic content, the media, new audiovisual technologies, and development cooperation.
