University entrance regulations establish that students must pass the University Entrance Exam (PAU) after completing any of the baccalaureate programs. If demand for places exceeds supply, the final grade obtained on these exams will be used as a benchmark. Furthermore, the University of La Laguna allows admission through the course and entrance exam for those over 25 years of age, aimed at those who meet this requirement and do not have the PAU or similar exams (RD 743/2003, of June 20, BOE of July 4, 2003).
Considering the characteristics and objectives of the History and Art History studies, it would be desirable for future students of our degree to be curious about the development of humanity from its origins to the current globalization, to show concern for cultural heritage, and to reflect from a humanistic perspective on the main social, economic, political, environmental, cultural, and other problems that plague us. It would also be very positive if they showed an attraction to maintaining a critical attitude toward the history of humanity and its artistic manifestations, an interest in the processes of change and continuity, cultural diversity, and the gender perspective in the analysis of societies.
At the same time, positive qualities for pursuing this degree include the desire to develop the skills necessary to express oneself fluently, both orally and in writing, and the ability to communicate, at least in an elementary way, in a foreign language.
Consequently, students who choose to participate in our degree program should view History and Art History as humanistic sciences in continuous development, rather than as a body of static knowledge, and should express a desire to understand and enrich their understanding of historical and artistic processes.
