Access to the justification of Social and Cultural Anthropology

Sociology, on the one hand, is responsible for analyzing the social reality of different social groups, institutions, and social processes such as the family, youth, the elderly, migration, and the incorporation of women into the workforce. It studies social facts and perceptions, providing diagnoses and proposals for improvement. To this end, sociology employs techniques developed specifically for this purpose, both quantitative (surveys or demographic techniques) and qualitative (focus groups, in-depth interviews, or participant observation).

Anthropology, for its part, studies cultural diversity and ethnological heritage, which involves fostering and developing the capacity to explain intercultural relations in the social world around us. In addition to its transcultural perspective and interest in intercultural relations, Social Anthropology is characterized by its use of fieldwork-based ethnography as a form of specific field research. It studies and analyzes social inequalities and ethnic, class, gender, and age identities; cultural variations in interaction with social flows and, especially, with the functioning of organizations, institutions, and businesses.

This Double Degree will greatly enhance graduates' employability, covering those fields of specialization that differentiate both disciplines and that, to date, pose barriers limiting the possibility of obtaining certain jobs. Thus, with the double degree, graduating students become much more attractive to all types of employers, from those seeking public administration to those seeking private sector interests.

All of this makes this Double Degree practically a necessity for our students, enhancing their training and eliminating the disciplinary barriers that limit their opportunities for professional development both in the Canary Islands and abroad.
