Sociology analyzes the social reality of different social groups, social institutions, and social processes such as the family, youth, the elderly, migration, and the incorporation of women into the workforce. It studies social facts (what is society like?) and social perceptions (how is society perceived?), providing diagnoses and proposals for improvement. To do so, it utilizes techniques developed by sociology, both quantitative (surveys or demographic techniques) and qualitative (focus groups, in-depth interviews, or participant observation).
The degree in Sociology aims to train professionals capable of developing the theoretical and empirical foundations that enable scientific understanding of societies and their well-being. This involves fostering and developing the capacity to explain the social world around us and contributing to the improvement of the social model.
