Master Degree in Management in Marine Technologies

Access, admission and enrolment

In accordance with the provisions of article 18 of Real Decreto 822/2021, of September 28, which establishes the organization of university education and the quality assurance procedure, to access official master’s education it will be It is necessary to be in possession of an official Spanish university degree, or, where appropriate, have another University Master’s degree, or another issued by a higher education institution of a country of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that authorizes the same access to Master’s studies.

Likewise, graduates in accordance with educational systems outside the EHEA will be able to access without the need for the homologation of their degrees, after verification by the university that they accredit a level of training equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish university degrees and that they empower the issuing country of the title for access to postgraduate education. Access through this route will not imply, in any case, the homologation of the previous degree held by the interested person, nor its recognition for other purposes than that of studying the Master’s degree.

As it is a degree that gives access to the professional title of Chief Engineer of the Merchant Navy, the conditions of access to the master's degree must comply with the provisions of the
Resolution of the General Secretariat of Universities, of January 20, 2016 (BOE of June 23) which publishes the Agreement of the Council of Universities that establishes recommendations for the proposal by universities of application reports for official titles in the fields of Nautical and Maritime Transport, Marine Technologies, Marine Electrotechnics and Naval Radioelectronics. In accordance with the provisions of section 4.2 of Annex V of the aforementioned Resolution, regarding the official titles linked to the profession of Chief Engineer of the Merchant Navy, the  conditions for access to the Master’s Degree in Management in Marine Technologies are as follows:

  1. To access the Master linked to the profession of Chief Engineer of the Merchant Navy, the interested person must have previously acquired the skills that are included in section 3 of annex II of this Agreement, which establishes the recommendations for the verification of the official university degrees linked to the exercise of the profession of Engineer Officer of the Merchant Navy, and their training be in accordance with that established in section 5 of annex II above.
  2. Likewise, access to the Master will be allowed when the degree’s title of the interested person, even if it does not cover all the specific subjects of the bachelor’s degree linked to the profession of Engineer Officer of the Merchant Marine, adjusts to the proposal of blocks and competences in accordance with annex II of the aforementioned Agreement of the Council of Universities.
  3. Likewise, those in possession of any other bachelor's degree may access this Master’s degree, without prejudice to the establishment of any prior training supplements deemed necessary in this case. The above requirements shall be understood without prejudice to the provisions of article 17.2 and the fourth additional provision of Royal Decree 1393/2007

Admission will be carried out in accordance with the criteria and procedures established in the Official Teaching Regulations of the University Master's Degree of the University of La Laguna (published in the Official Gazette of the ULL on May 14, 2020), which is in line with the standards of the European Higher Education Area and other applicable regulations.

In accordance with the aforementioned Regulation, the Master’s Academic Committee (CAM) will be in charge of carrying out the admission process. The CAM will be made up of a minimum of five and a maximum of seven Master’s professors, including the academic director, who will act as its chairman. Its members will be appointed by the participating university departments or institutes, in a number proportional to their teaching dedication.
One of the members will be the person who exercises the academic management of the Higher Polytechnic School of Engineering (EPSI), as the center to which the studies are assigned, or a person from the management team to whom they delegate.

In general, pre-registration for all ULL master’s degrees will require accreditation of a B1 level in English according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR). Students who meet the mandatory academic requirements may enroll in the Master’s Degree, after admission by CAM, in accordance with the Instruction that regulates the procedures for access, admission and enrollment in the official teachings of the University Master’s Degree at the ULL, which Each academic year the Directorate of the School of  Doctorate and Postgraduate Studies (EDEPULL) is made public. At the time of formalizing enrollment, students must certify, by means of a declaration of recognition and acceptance, that they have been informed about the technological and computer resources that must be available for the correct follow-up that virtual teaching of the degree implies.

The Master in Management in Marine Technologies is open to any university graduate in the field of Marine Technologies, although it is especially aimed at graduates from Nautical Schools
and other university centers that participate in the training of Engine Officers and Electrotechnical Officers of the Merchant Navy. Preferred degrees are

  • Degree in Marine Technologies
  • Diploma in Naval machines
  • Bachelor of Naval Machinery
  • Degree in Marine Engineering
  • Other graduate degrees that accredit training in the field of Marine Technologies

In the event that the access degree is the Diploma in Naval Machinery, the credits provided for in the adaptation of the Diploma in Naval Machinery to the Degree in Marine Technologies must be taken.

Students, in their pre-registration application, must attach all the official documents that prove the profile required for access, their academic record and other curriculum vitae, through
which they will be evaluated for possible admission to the master’s degree according to criteria of equality, merit and ability. The evaluation will be carried out by the CAM applying the following selection criteria:

  1. Degree indicated as preferred
  2. Qualification of the academic record
  3. Other merits (professional and/or academic experience in the field of Marine Technologies)

In the case of students with specific educational needs derived from disability, the academic direction of the master’s degree will assess the need for possible curricular adaptations, itineraries or alternative studies and will prepare the corresponding proposal to the Master Academic Committee for approval. For this, it has the support and advice of the Program for Attention to Students with Specific Educational Support Needs (PAED), dependent on the vice-rectorate with competences in students.

Enrollment is the formal instrument through which university student status is acquired. The student who wishes to take the Master Degree, before enrolling, must meet the access requirements and have obtained a place through the admission process.

The access, admission and registration instructions published annually contain the necessary information for the correct development of the process (modalities, periods, calendar, documentation to be delivered, forms of payment…).
