External practices

Carrying out external internships in companies, organizations and institutions is mandatory in those master’s degrees that have it established in their study plan. They involve an approach of students to real assumptions, complementing the training received with the reality of the world of work.

The external internships, worth 18 credits, will be divided into two subjects, External Internships I and External Internships II. The set of external internships is organized around these two  subjects, the first having a load of 12 ECTS credits, in which the students will have to familiarize themselves with the variety of resources and activities that a specialist in the field of Equal Opportunities, it is, therefore, a more general activity. For its part, in the External Internships II subject, with a load of 6 ECTS credits, students must delve into a specific field of application of equality policies.

The internship subjects are part of the compulsory common module and should preferably be carried out during the fourth semester, in one or more of the companies or institutions that have an agreement with the ULL.

There is also the possibility of carrying out internships in Europe within the ErasmusB internship program. These internships will be carried out under the supervision of the Master’s External Internship Tutoring Commission who will assign a tutor/or Academic as well as a person responsible for monitoring said internships in the chosen entity. At the end of the
internship period, the entity will issue a report that will collect the results obtained by the students.

The academic internships may be carried out in collaborating entities/companies, such as companies, institutions, public/private entities, public administrations or dependent bodies, etc.

For the development of external internships, the University of La Laguna maintains the necessary agreements made with companies, organizations and institutions in which it is considered that students can acquire the professional skills appropriate to the degree and that respond to the professional profiles defined in the memory.

General requirements for carrying out the External Internships

To carry out external internships, students must meet the following general requirements:

Be enrolled in the degree and in the subject of External Practices of your study plan.

Not maintain any contractual relationship with the company, institution or entity, except for the cases described in the applicable regulations.

Any other academic requirement established by the degree in its Verification/Modification

Report and in the teaching guide of the subject.

The degree has the structures and mechanisms for organization, management, evaluation and monitoring of external internships, which are specified in: the Master’s Academic Commission (CAM), the Coordination of External Internships, academic tutors and External tutors. At degree level, the Coordinator of External Practices that is included in the Teaching Guide is responsible for managing the development of the subject:

The Academic Commission will carry out the selection and assignment of academic tutors to the student body. For its part, the Coordinator of External Practices of the degree, together with the academic tutors, is in charge of agreeing with the external tutors of the entities the number of students admitted, the timing and the activities to be carried out by the students.

For the evaluation of this activity, the student must prepare a report of the activities carried out in the practice center, which will assess the quality and correctness of expression about the content, as well as its presentation and defense.

The general, national, regional and ULL university regulations, which govern external internships in official ULL degrees, are as follows:

  • Real Decreto 592/2014, of July 11, which regulates external academic internships for university students (BOE of July 30, 2014).
  • D. 168/2008, of July 22, which regulates the procedure, requirements and evaluation criteria for the authorization of the implementation of university education leading to obtaining the official titles of Degree, Master and Doctorate of the Canary Autonomous Community.
