This approach has prioritized the cognitive and verbal dimensions of experience, relegating the role of bodies, emotions, and sensory perceptions to a secondary position.

However, no one involved in a research process is neutral. All participants—including the researcher—contribute their own bodies, histories, and frames of reference. Furthermore, the power dynamics that may exist, often asymmetrical, influence the development and outcomes of the research, an aspect that is especially relevant when working with migrants.

The seminar will present two concrete examples of participatory research with migrants based on multisensory and creative approaches. On the one hand, it will highlight how the body—with all its senses—is an integral part of the research process. On the other, it will reflect on how researchers can recognize their own privileged position and step outside their comfort zone to embrace “other” or unexpected narratives through the use of creative methods.

The seminar will be led by Annavittoria Sarli and Alessandra Barzaghi. Annavittoria Sarli is a sociology researcher at the University of Parma. She focuses on migration, intercultural relations, and issues of racial (in)justice, employing qualitative and participatory methodologies. Alessandra Barzaghi is a doctoral candidate in Sociology at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan and is a researcher and project manager in the Education Sector of the ISMU-ETS Foundation. She studies the educational trajectories and participation of migrant adults and children, with a particular emphasis on unaccompanied minors and the use of creative and participatory methodologies.

The session will be coordinated by Daniel Buraschi, Andrés González Novoa and Annachiara Del Prete.

This activity is part of the Permanent Seminar on Education for Global Citizenship and Social Transformation, organized by the Vice-Rectorate for Cooperation and Internationalization at the University of La Laguna. It is also part of the PIPE Project (Inclusion Program for Migrants at Risk of Social Exclusion, 2023-1-ES01-KA220-ADU-000160578), a European project that promotes language teaching as a tool for social transformation for migrants from an intersectional and gender perspective. The reflections on multisensory, participatory, and creative methodologies presented in this seminar connect directly with PIPE's pedagogical principles: listening to migrant narratives, recognizing the position of the researcher or teacher, and creating safe spaces where bodies, emotions, and experiences are legitimate sources of knowledge. Registration through PIPE allows participants to receive accreditation for the project. For more information about PIPE, please visit the link.

Attendance is open to the university community and the public interested in educational research, migration, and participatory methodologies.

Registration

La Universidad de La Laguna acogerá el próximo 10 de marzo, de 17:00 a 19:00 horas, en el Aula B.1.2.08 de la Facultad de Educación (Módulo B) el seminario-taller “La…

[249,265,243,250,252,251
post-54520","tribe_events","type-tribe_events","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tribe_events_cat-destacado-ull","tribe_events_cat-facultad-de-educacion","tribe_events_cat-facultades-y-escuelas","tribe_events_cat-internacionalizacion","tribe_events_cat-perfil-estudiante","tribe_events_cat-perfiles","cat_destacado-ull","cat_facultad-de-educacion","cat_facultades-y-escuelas","cat_internacionalizacion","cat_perfil-estudiante","cat_perfiles
["GET
