The aim of the conference is to share with the public the results being obtained from the analysis of basketry and rope-making artifacts from the aboriginal period of the Canary Islands. The conference also seeks to be a meeting point between aboriginal basketry techniques and current techniques for working with plant fibers, with the participation of artisans. On the final day, an aboriginal basketry workshop will be held, offering the opportunity to reproduce some of the basketry techniques observed in archaeological objects (limited spaces available for workshop participation).

Organized by:

Island Societies and their Interaction with the Environment Research Group (SIIM) of the University of La Laguna

AIDER La Gomera

Program of the conference:
Friday 17

The perishable archaeological heritage of the Canary Islands and the "Perishable" project (Paloma Vidal Matutano)

Following the trail of aboriginal basketry: plants and objects (Maria Herrero Otal and Anna Homs Padrisa)

Saturday 18

The traditional use of plant fibers in Alojera (Demetria García Mesa and Flora M.
