The course\u00a0\u00ab"AI and Health: intelligent tools for studying, researching and practicing better"\u00bb<\/em>\u00a0It is part of the programming of the University Extension Courses of the \u201cAdeje Summer University 2026<\/a>\u201d, and will be held in the municipality of Adeje on July 7 and 8.<\/p>\n

The course is designed so that students can start using AI tools in their clinical and academic practice the very next day, and it pursues the following objectives:
\n1. Understand what generative artificial intelligence is, how language models work, and what their specific capabilities and limitations are in the healthcare field.
\n2. Master clinical prompting techniques: professional role assignment, anchoring in clinical practice guidelines, requesting verifiable bibliography, SOAP format and evaluation of evidence according to the GRADE system.
\n3. Use AI tools for health research: intelligent bibliographic search, automatic summarization of articles and systematic reviews, and detection of bibliographic hallucinations (phantom DOIs, invented citations).
\n4. Apply AI to the production of clinical and academic content: reports, literature reviews, clinical cases, health-related undergraduate\/master's theses, presentations, patient education infographics, and clinical protocols.
\n5. Automate daily tasks for students and healthcare professionals: session transcription, rotation organization, assisted ICD-10\/ICD-11 coding, agenda management, and personal systems for quick consultation of clinical guidelines.
\n6. To know the applications of AI by health disciplines: diagnostic support in medicine, care plans in nursing (NANDA-NIC-NOC), drug interactions in pharmacy and personalized exercise programs in physiotherapy.
\n7. Reflect critically on the ethical, legal (GDPR, EU AI Act) and professional responsibility implications of the use of AI in the therapeutic relationship, developing your own criteria to discern when to trust AI and when to verify.<\/p>\n

This course is aimed at undergraduate, double-degree, and master's students in Health Sciences: Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Optics and Optometry, and Biomedical Sciences. It is also open to postgraduate students and healthcare residents (MIR, EIR, FIR, PIR), recent graduates in Health Sciences (up to two years since graduation), and students in advanced vocational training programs in healthcare fields (e.g., Diagnostic Imaging Technician, Clinical Laboratory Technician, Dental Hygiene Technician). Students from other disciplines with a demonstrated interest in applying AI to the healthcare sector (e.g., Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Public Health) are welcome. No prior programming or artificial intelligence knowledge is required.<\/p>\n

CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE, COMPETENCE AND RECOGNITION BY ECTS CREDIT<\/strong><\/p>\n

The University of La Laguna, through the Vice-Rectorate for Culture and University Extension, will issue a certificate of attendance to all those who attend at least 80% of the scheduled class hours. Likewise, those who successfully complete the independent student work will receive a certificate of attendance and achievement, which is also recognized as an ECTS credit.<\/p>\n
