In this case, given the complexity and breadth of the Arab-Islamic world, the focus has been placed on only one part of it, specifically Morocco. This neighboring country presents itself as a territory with great historical and cultural diversity, as well as being geographically strategic in many respects. Furthermore, as is the case in all Arab countries, its inhabitants experience diglossia, meaning that a standard language (Fusha Arabic) and a native language (Moroccan Arabic, or Darija) coexist harmoniously.

Therefore, this seminar aims to shed light on some of the aforementioned aspects: geographical, cultural, historical, and touristic—all interconnected with the Arabic language. In any case, the main objective will be to focus on the native language of communication, Moroccan Arabic, and to address cultural and geographical issues from that perspective.

I believe this new Open Classroom will enrich not only the university curriculum of students in the Applied Francophone Studies degree program, in particular, but also that of the entire university community, as it is offered especially to nursing and medical students for purely practical communication purposes. Consequently, this seminar is aimed at students currently taking an Arabic language course, as well as students and researchers from other disciplines interested in acquiring deeper knowledge about Morocco and its language, and the general public.

Dates: September 29, October 6 and 13, 2026
Hours: 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Classroom: 2.3.
