En un mundo ideal, todos los seres humanos hablarían el mismo idioma, pero afortunadamente, los múltiples matices culturales, geográficos o etnográficos han ido separando idiomáticamente a las personas, generando un abanico dialectal que es un tesoro pero, no cabe duda, puede dificultar la comunicación.Los humanos han desarrollado unos 6.000 idiomas diferentes, un galimatías insalvable si no fuera porque existen personas dedicadas a unir puentes y a traducir las lenguas. No son muy conocidos, quizá seamos incapaces de citar a una sola de ellas, pero sin su trabajo la cultura no sería tan universal: jamás hubiéramos podido disfrutar de las obras de Shakespeare, Julio Verne o Haruki Murakami. Ni la Biblia, ni el Corán ni “El Principito”, ni siquiera el cuento de los tres cerditos serían accesibles para todo el mundo y solo aquellas personas que dominaran un segundo idioma las disfrutarían. Sin duda, los traductores son los democratizadores de la cultura.
