Pionera de la Astrof\u00edsica en Canarias, es experta en la formaci\u00f3n y evoluci\u00f3n de las galaxias. Fue la primera mujer astr\u00f3noma observacional en el archipi\u00e9lago y la segunda de Espa\u00f1a.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Se licenci\u00f3 en Ciencias F\u00edsicas en la Universidad de Sevilla en 1974 y en ese mismo a\u00f1o se traslad\u00f3 a la Universidad de Granada para comenzar su carrera profesional en astronom\u00eda observacional. En 1975 se traslad\u00f3 al IAC p<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ara realizar su tesis doctoral y se doctor\u00f3 en astronom\u00eda por la ULL en 1983, convirti\u00e9ndose as\u00ed en la primera astr\u00f3noma profesional del IAC. Su tesina constituy\u00f3 el primer estudio en el infrarrojo pr\u00f3ximo realizado desde el Observatorio del Teide.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Particip\u00f3 tanto en la creaci\u00f3n de este observatorio como en el posterior desarrollo del IAC <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">con las instalaciones telesc\u00f3picas del Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos en La Palma. Toda esta actividad investigadora la ha conjugado con su labor docente en la ULL donde, desde 1986, ocupa el cargo de Titular de Universidad. Adem\u00e1s, ha sido directora del Departamento de F\u00edsica y Coordinadora de Ense\u00f1anza del IAC<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">entre 1991 y 1994.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Desde finales de los 90 su labor investigadora ha estado dedicada al estudio de la evoluci\u00f3n de galaxias lejanas con altos corrimientos hacia el rojo. Con cuatro d\u00e9cadas de investigaci\u00f3n y docencia a sus espaldas, actualmente sigue involucrada en diferentes proyectos cient\u00edficos.
