Doctor en Biolog\u00eda por la Universidad de La Laguna con la tesis \u201cEstudios de amebas de vida libre del g\u00e9nero acanthamoeba en las Islas Canarias\u201d (2006), es experto en protozoosis emergentes de transmisi\u00f3n h\u00eddrica, fundamentalmente amebas de vida libre, y enfermedades tropicales y emergentes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Durante los \u00faltimos diez a\u00f1os, Lorenzo Morales ha centrado su actividad investigadora en las amebas de vida libre. Su campo de investigaci\u00f3n principal se enfoca en la <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Acanthamoeba genus<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, tratando de identificar objetivos potenciales usando siRNA para desarrollar aproximaciones terap\u00e9uticas novedosas contra este pat\u00f3geno. Otras amebas de vida libre que estudia son la <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Balamuthia mandrillaris<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sappinia <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">y la <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Naegleria fowleri<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, todas ellas capaces de generar encefalitis mortal en humanos y otros animales. Durante los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os ha estado trabajando en el diagn\u00f3stico de SARS-CoV2, as\u00ed como en el descubrimiento de agentes e instrumentos antivirales novedosos.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Con m\u00e1s de 15 a\u00f1os de experiencia en enfermedades tropicales y diagn\u00f3stico y tratamiento de pat\u00f3genos emergentes, Jacob Lorenzo Morales presenta un \u00edndice h de 41, con m\u00e1s de 6800 citas, increment\u00e1ndose en m\u00e1s de 3900 despu\u00e9s del a\u00f1o 2019. Ha publicado m\u00e1s de 250 en revistas cient\u00edficas indexadas JR en los campos de medicina tropical, parasitolog\u00eda y protozoolog\u00eda, y ha presentado m\u00e1s de 300 comunicaciones en congresos nacionales e internacionales. Ha participado como organizador de talleres y workshops internacionales en el campo de la Ameba de Vida Libre. Adem\u00e1s, ha desempe\u00f1ado el papel de jurado para becas internacionales y para m\u00e1s de 250 art\u00edculos en revistas como PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases, Antimicrobial Agents y Chemotherapy, entre otras. En 2013 recibi\u00f3 el premio \u201cJoven Canarias 2013\u201d y el segundo premio en la edici\u00f3n de 2015 de los \u201cPremios Talento y Compromiso\u00a0 de Cajasiete\u201d, y en 2020 el Premio de Internacionalizaci\u00f3n de la Universidad de La Laguna. Adem\u00e1s, particip\u00f3 en el proyecto del genoma de la Acanthamoeba, obteniendo datos que fueron publicados en la revista Genome Biology en 2013, y recibiendo m\u00e1s de 300 citas.
