Posteriormente, en la misma instituci\u00f3n realiz\u00f3 sus estudios de doctorado, obteniendo el t\u00edtulo de doctor en Ciencias M\u00e9dicas y Farmac\u00e9uticas, Desarrollo y Calidad de Vida en 2023 con la tesis titulada <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nuevas mol\u00e9culas con actividad terap\u00e9utica frente a tripanosom\u00e1tidos: Evaluaci\u00f3n y mecanismo de acci\u00f3n a nivel celular<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, dirigida por los investigadores Jos\u00e9 Enrique Pi\u00f1ero y Jacob Lorenzo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Durante los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, Bethencourt ha centrado su investigaci\u00f3n en la quimioterapia antiparasitaria frente a protozoos, principalmente en tripanosom\u00e1tidos. Tambi\u00e9n ha participado en el estudio de amebas de vida libre, tanto en su desarrollo en el ambiente como en la b\u00fasqueda de nuevos tratamientos.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">En su trayectoria investigadora, ha podido compartir los resultados en m\u00e1s de 100 presentaciones a congresos y completar m\u00e1s de 30 publicaciones de alto impacto internacional.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">En la actualidad, es investigador del Instituto Universitario de Enfermedades Tropicales y Salud P\u00fablica de Canarias, donde contin\u00faa con sus l\u00edneas de investigaci\u00f3n y pretende desarrollar nuevas l\u00edneas centradas en las grandes olvidadas enfermedades tropicales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=\u00bb<strong>Departamento<\/strong>\u00bb font_container=\u00bbtag:h4|text_align:left|color:%23535968&#8243;
