Doctor por la Universidad de Georgia (EEUU) y la Universidad de Valladolid con la tesis Prevalencia y factores de riesgo de la infecci\u00f3n por el virus de la hepatitis (1996), imparte docencia sobre organismos pat\u00f3genos en los grados de Medicina y Farmacia de la Universidad de La Laguna.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Licenciado en Biolog\u00eda por la Universidad de La Laguna, comenz\u00f3 su carrera como investigador en la Universidad de Georgia, EE.UU., donde realiz\u00f3 su doctorado, as\u00ed como una estancia postdoctoral. Entonces inici\u00f3 una l\u00ednea de investigaci\u00f3n, que contin\u00faa desarrollando, sobre los microorganismos de los oc\u00e9anos y su funci\u00f3n en los ciclos de los elementos, del carbono, nitr\u00f3geno, azufre y otros. Utiliza m\u00e9todos de gen\u00f3mica y de bioinform\u00e1tica para entender las adaptaciones de los microorganismos a las condiciones de los oc\u00e9anos y su proyecto de investigaci\u00f3n vigente se centra en los microorganismos de las zonas polares.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cuenta con m\u00e1s de 80 publicaciones cient\u00edficas y sus principales objetivos de investigaci\u00f3n incluyen la diversidad microbiana, la estructura de la comunidad y los procesos biogeoqu\u00edmicos, y la vinculaci\u00f3n de los taxones microbianos a los procesos cr\u00edticos del ecosistema.
