Sin embargo esto no\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">quita para que se sigan haciendo\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">preguntas tales como \u00bfHasta qu\u00e9 punto es\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">peligrosa la calima? \u00bfExiste m\u00e1s de un tipo?\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">\u00bfPuede empeorar por el cambio clim\u00e1tico?<\/span><\/p><p>Seg\u00fan un estudio publicado en la revista cient\u00edfica <b>Lancet Planetary Health<\/b>, menos de un 1% de la poblaci\u00f3n mundial est\u00e1 expuesta a\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">niveles de contaminaci\u00f3n atmosf\u00e9rica acep<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">tables. Una vez lees esto, empiezas a pregun<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">tarte qu\u00e9 es lo que realmente est\u00e1s respiran<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">do, adem\u00e1s de si realmente existe un lugar sin\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">contaminaci\u00f3n atmosf\u00e9rica. Al pensar en la\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">contaminaci\u00f3n atmosf\u00e9rica, la calima no es lo\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">primero que se nos pasa por la cabeza, vien<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">do accidentes como el de Chern\u00f3bil (produjo\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">una nube radioactiva que se extendi\u00f3 por toda\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">Europa) o episodios como el gran Smog de\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">Londr\u00e9s (provoc\u00f3 la muerte de m\u00e1s de 4.000\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">personas). Si intentamos compararlos, la cali<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">ma no parece nada del otro mundo, viendo\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">que los problemas que suele acarrear son\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">irritaciones en la garganta, toses y molestias\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">en el pecho. Entre lo que la mayor\u00eda de la gen<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">te desconoce, destaca el hecho de que puede\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">llevar a la creaci\u00f3n de problemas asm\u00e1ticos\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">en personas que antes no padec\u00edan proble<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">mas respiratorios, raz\u00f3n por la cual no hay que\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">subestimar la calima y su impacto deber\u00eda ser\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">comprendido por toda la ciudadan\u00eda.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><blockquote><p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">\u00abSeg\u00fan un estudio publicado<br \/>en la revista cient\u00edfica Lancet<br \/>Planetary Health, menos de<br \/>un 1% de la poblaci\u00f3n mundial<br \/>est\u00e1 expuesta a niveles de<br \/>contaminaci\u00f3n atmosf\u00e9rica<br \/>aceptables\u00bb.<\/span><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Pero \u00bfsabemos realmente lo que es la calima? Se trata de un fen\u00f3meno atmosf\u00e9rico\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">en el cual se observa un exceso de part\u00edcu<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">las s\u00f3lidas en suspensi\u00f3n, cuyo tama\u00f1o es\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">60 veces menor al de un cabello. A pesar de\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">esto, vienen en enormes cantidades, de hasta\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">180 millones de toneladas, para dar al aire un\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">aspecto amarillento o anaranjado propio del\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">crep\u00fasculo, adem\u00e1s de un ambiente turbio.<\/span><\/p><p>Suele producirse en zonas \u00e1ridas y su origen\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">se debe a una combinaci\u00f3n de factores clim\u00e1<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">ticos como el viento y la sequ\u00eda. Estas part\u00ed<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">culas en suspensi\u00f3n pueden estar formadas\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">de cenizas y arcilla, aunque principalmente\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">son polvo y arena. Por tanto, est\u00e1 clara la\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">raz\u00f3n por la cual Canarias suele sufrir episo<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">dios de calima: el desierto del S\u00e1hara.<\/span><\/p><p>Respecto a su clase, se pueden diferenciar dos tipos de calima, la primera, conocida\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">como calima \u201cA\u201d, se trata de la cl\u00e1sica calima\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">\u201cnatural\u201d, cuyo origen es el transporte por\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">medio del viento de arena adem\u00e1s de otros\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">elementos presentes en el aire. Por otra par<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">te, se puede distinguir otra clase de calima,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">llamada calima tipo \u201cB\u201d, cuyo rasgo diferen<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">ciador se basa en que se origin\u00f3 a partir de\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">eventos especiales, como por ejemplo los\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">incendios forestales. Esta clase de activi<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">dades provoca que elementos contaminan<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">tes tales como el di\u00f3xido de carbono (CO2<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">),\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">mon\u00f3xido de carbono (CO), metano (CH4<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">),\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">adem\u00e1s de \u00f3xidos de nitr\u00f3geno(NOX) lleguen\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">a diversas capas de la atm\u00f3sfera y provocan\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">distintos efectos negativos como el aumen<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">to del efecto invernadero, lluvia \u00e1cida o smog\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">fotoqu\u00edmico. Respecto al\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">impacto que llega a tener en los animales, sus\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">efectos son muy similares al de los humanos,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">llegando a agravarse si tambi\u00e9n padecen\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">enfermedades previas relacionadas. Igual<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">mente puede llegar a influir en otros aspec<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">tos como la conducci\u00f3n (no hay visibilidad),\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">la aparici\u00f3n de aves ex\u00f3ticas a las islas o la\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">agricultura y ganader\u00eda incluso, al reducir la\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">cantidad de luz solar que pueden obtener las\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">plantas a la vez que disminuye la calidad del\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">pasto y alimentos para el ganado.<\/span><\/p><p>Afortunadamente, parece que en nuestras islas se le est\u00e1 dando mayor importancia a esta contaminaci\u00f3n atmosf\u00e9rica, viendo que<br \/>el CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cient\u00edficas) planea crear, junto al Gobierno de Canarias, un laboratorio de calidad del<br \/>aire de Canarias, cuya misi\u00f3n consistir\u00e1 en estudiar la presencia de aerosoles (grupo de part\u00edculas s\u00f3lidas o l\u00edquidas suspendidas en el aire) y calima en el aire. Sin el efecto invernadero la tempera<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">tura media del planeta ser\u00eda de alrededor de\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">-18oC, por lo que es indispensable para la vida.<\/span><\/p><p>Actualmente se emiten demasiados gases de efecto invernadero, lo que est\u00e1 provocando un aumento de la temperatura global, o lo que es lo mismo, conlleva a un mayor <strong>calentamiento global<\/strong>. El calentamiento global es uno de los efectos del <strong>cambio clim\u00e1tico<\/strong>, el cual se trata\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">de un cambio significativo adem\u00e1s de dura<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">dero en las caracter\u00edsticas atmosf\u00e9ricas de la\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">Tierra. Entre otros ejemplos de cambio clim\u00e1<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">tico sobresale el derretimiento de los glacia<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">res y la extinci\u00f3n de especies, entre otros.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">Respondiendo a la pregunta del inicio, exis<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">te una correlaci\u00f3n entre el cambio clim\u00e1tico\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">y la calima, debido a que el aumento de tem<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">peratura conducir\u00eda a m\u00e1s sequ\u00eda, al evapo<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif\">rarse grandes cantidades de agua.
