Posee alrededor de un centenar de publicaciones cient\u00edficas en revistas internacionales y varias patentes industriales sobre nanomateriales luminiscentes que contienen \u201ctierras raras\u201d con aplicaciones tecnol\u00f3gicas en el campo de la fot\u00f3nica y las energ\u00edas renovables.<br \/>\nDesarrolla su actividad investigadora desde la Universidad de La Laguna en colaboraci\u00f3n con grupos y centros de investigaci\u00f3n punteros de Universidades del Reino Unido, Alemania, Canad\u00e1, EEUU y Jap\u00f3n. En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os su investigaci\u00f3n se ha centrado hacia el campo de la fotoqu\u00edmica, integrando la nanotecnolog\u00eda y la fot\u00f3nica para la obtenci\u00f3n del hidr\u00f3geno a trav\u00e9s de procesos de fot\u00f3lisis del agua (\u201cwater-splitting\u201d), que se enmarca en el actual campo de la conocida como \u201cfotos\u00edntesis artificial\u201d.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=\u00bb1\/2&#8243; background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm .0001pt 36.0pt;\">Tras una d\u00e9cada de investigaciones centradas en las posibles aplicaciones deals tierras raras, que han sido encumbradas como el oro tecnol\u00f3gico del siglo XXI, M\u00e9ndez, capitanea una ambiciosa puesta en escena denominada MAGEC-REEsearch, financiado por el programa Retos I+D del Ministerio de Econom\u00eda y Competitividad y por la Agencia Canaria de Investigaci\u00f3n, que abraza el proyecto \u201cMateriales para Avanzada Generaci\u00f3n de Energ\u00eda y exploraci\u00f3n de tierras raras en Canarias\u201d en el que las dos universidades canarias a\u00fanan fortalezas para averiguar cu\u00e1les son los recursos potenciales de tierras raras que albergan las islas Canarias. \u201cLo que estamos haciendo es estudiar los potenciales recursos minerales y ver hasta qu\u00e9 punto pueden convertirse en tales, una labor que est\u00e1 a cargo de los ge\u00f3logos del proyecto\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=\u00bb1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=\u00bb98&#8243;
