The painter, sculptor and muralist Antonio Otazzo Padrón (La Orotava, 1929-Cagua, Venezuela, 2020) is the protagonist of the exhibition that will be hosted from tomorrow Friday, November 3, by the La Capilla Cultural Space of the University of La Laguna, with a broad retrospective of his work.
The exhibition arrives at the University of La Laguna thanks to the Otazzo Cultural Association, whose president, Jorge Fernández, will participate in the opening ceremony, scheduled for 8:00 p.m. There will also be institutional representation from the La Orotava City Council, and members of the university's governing board have confirmed their attendance. Dr. Jonás de Armas Núñez, an expert in Art History, will explain the exhibition's purpose and outline its main features.
Otazzo possesses a distinct style within Impressionism, free from the constraints of academic norms and grounded in chromatic dissociation. His paintings reveal a constant study of light and its decompositions and recompositions, a style expressed quickly and spontaneously. He shares a common denominator with the great Impressionists: a restless temperament and remarkable perseverance and dedication, despite facing harsh criticism from critics and the official art establishment.
