The professor from the University of La Laguna Flora María Díaz Pérez, has been invited to participate as an evaluator in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, completing THE's academic reputation survey, for several consecutive years.

The Times Higher Education (THE) survey has been providing information on universities worldwide since 2004. Specifically, THE produces rankings to evaluate universities from a global perspective and thus offer resources that help to understand the different goals and achievements of higher education institutions.

The THE World University Rankings presents a list of the world's best universities, with a particular emphasis on research. However, it also ranks research-intensive universities, considering various factors: teaching, research environment, research quality, knowledge transfer, and degree of internationalization. This ranking uses 18 performance indicators. Notably, the THE Impact Rankings, established in 2019, assesses universities against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, publishing a ranking based on the progress of higher education institutions in this area.

The invitation Díaz Pérez received to participate in this survey as a global university evaluator acknowledges her extensive research publication record, representing her colleagues both within her discipline and in her country. Indeed, Professor Díaz Pérez has more than one hundred publications, including journal articles, books, book chapters and reports, a significant percentage of which are high-impact international publications.

Furthermore, throughout her career she has undertaken research stays and collaborated with various universities internationally, such as the Institute of Applied Sciences (Valais, Switzerland), the University of the Andes (Mérida, Venezuela), The American University (Washington, D.C., USA), the University of Guelph (Toronto, Canada), and the University of Central Florida (USA). Specifically at the University of Central Florida (UCF), she has completed two research stays and led two research projects in recent years, serving as Principal Investigator for each.

She has also been an external expert for the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy of the European Commission for three years, this achievement being based on her experience in the areas of knowledge transfer, competitiveness, innovation, gender and small and medium-sized enterprises.

She currently coordinates the Tourism, Competitiveness and Sustainability research group, which has a long history of studying tourism market segmentation and environmental policy. She has received the Socioeconomic Research Award in Applied Economics, granted by the La Palma World Biosphere Reserve, and has twice been selected as a success story in R&D&I by the national press.
