The professor of Spanish philology at the University of Limoges (France) Cécile Bertin-Elisabeth has completed a stay at the University of La Laguna within the Erasmus+ program from December 16, 2024 to January 13, 2025. During her visit, she has carried out several training activities and has also presented to the Vice-Rectorate for Internationalization and Cooperation an ambitious project that will involve several areas of knowledge, the organization of exchange of library funds and exhibitions, as well as the holding of a congress.

Bertin-Elisabeth specializes in the rewriting of Spanish and Latin American literature from the Golden Age to the present day and is interested in “peripheral” cultures, especially Caribbean culture and the heritage of Afro-descendants. During her visit, she gave a lecture entitled «Literary and Philosophical Journeys between the Caribbean and Africa» at the Faculty of Humanities on Tuesday, December 17, organized by the Cultural Classroom of Language and Literature.

Subsequently, on January 10, 2025, I presented the work “Au carrefour des Afriques Subsahariennes et de leurs diasporas. Tell, write and translate l'histoire, les histoires” (“At the crossroads of sub-Saharan Africa and its diasporas. Saying, writing and translating history, stories”), directed by Mamadou Bâ, Raymond Mbassi Atéba, Corinne Mencé-Caster, Érick Noël and Cécile Bertin-Elisabeth herself, published by Presses Universitaires de Nouvelle Aquitaine, Geste Editions, in 2024.

Taking advantage of his stay in Tenerife, he has strengthened and expanded Erasmus mobility with his university, met with professors from the University of La Laguna to start several exchange projects related to the translation and publication of works of Francophone literature, and the organization of a colloquium to be held on the island in February 2026 on Archipelagic Theories around the notion of Geocriticism, applied to the islands of Macaronesia and the Caribbean, from different disciplines (Humanities, Social Sciences, Legal Sciences, Arts, etc.).
