Europe on Track It is an international volunteering program promoted by the European student association AEGEE Through this program, six selected young people act as ambassadors, traveling for a month along two different routes across Europe to give talks and seminars on how young people can become more involved in political and social issues. Virág Schiszler, Yannis Vitsos, and Roberta Bajčić are three of these ambassadors who arrived at the University of La Laguna last Saturday, May 17th, to deliver two of these informative presentations that morning.
The meeting was held at the offices of the Vice-Rectorate for Internationalization and Cooperation of the University of La Laguna, at 50 Viana Street, and was opened by the Vice-Rector herself, Inmaculada González, who in her speech highlighted the importance of the European Union "arming itself with knowledge in favor of peace" to achieve a citizenry much more committed to human rights.
Ambassadors from the Europe In Track program led two workshops on intersectional identities. In the first, the audience was invited to empathize with people who experience various challenges, obstacles, and disabilities, and to consider the difficulties these circumstances might present throughout their lives.
After a short break, in the second workshop, the ambassadors shared some of their experiences and stories from their international journeys and how they navigated specific situations and contexts. Ultimately, the workshops helped participants see complex everyday situations in society from a different perspective, as well as learn to listen to the voices of underrepresented groups.
