The University of La Laguna is reinforcing its commitment to research with the publication of its 2025 Research Plan, endowed with €710,000. The initiative, now available in the Official Bulletin of the University of La Laguna, aims to consolidate the institution's scientific leadership, support its research groups, and promote the training, collaboration, and international exposure of its research staff.
He Own Research Plan 2025 It is a fundamental strategic tool for consolidating this institution's leadership in knowledge generation. And, in fact, this plan reflects the teaching center's firm commitment to scientific excellence and to the positive impact of research on its community.
This initiative aims to strengthen the university's research groups, improve the training of young researchers, and facilitate participation in national and international networks and funding opportunities. It also promotes the creation of synergies with leading research centers and the mobility of research staff, with the goal of enriching collaboration and knowledge transfer.
The main new feature of the plan is a unified structure that integrates all funding opportunities promoted by the University of La Laguna for this period, with the aim of reinforcing the transparency and predictability of the actions, as well as simplifying the administrative processes for processing and supervising all lines of support.
The calls included in the 2025 Research Plan are divided into two lines of funding: incentives for research activity and mobility of research staff.
The first line of action includes incentives for high-quality, pre-competitive projects, with a budget of €50,000. This funding is aimed at research groups that applied for funding in the 2023 call for proposals for Knowledge Generation Projects under the State Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research, and received a score of 69 points or higher, but did not obtain funding. The guidelines state that €5,000 will be awarded per application. All application deadlines are June 30, except for open access publications, which have a deadline of October 30.
This section also includes projects for early-career researchers, with a budget of €100,000. These grants are intended to support the implementation of research projects led by assistant or postdoctoral researchers hired through national, international, regional, or in-house programs (excluding staff hired through specific projects), to strengthen their competitiveness in accessing future funding opportunities. As before, €5,000 will be awarded per application.
The grants for open access publications, with a budget of €50,000, are designed to finance the costs associated with publishing open access scientific articles in the first or second quartile of journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports. Grants will be awarded up to a maximum of €3,500 for articles published in the first quartile and €2,500 for those published in the second quartile, except for articles related to the areas of Biodiversity, Biomedicine, Marine and Maritime Sciences and Technologies, or Astrophysics, for which the amount will be up to €5,000.
Regarding the second line of the Own Plan, the mobility of research staff, a series of aid has been planned for this category such as short stays of research staff from international centers, with a budget of 60,000 euros; the organization of international scientific congresses, with a budget of 200,000 euros, or the organization of relevant scientific seminars, endowed with 150,000 euros.
Also available will be travel grants for participation in congresses and scientific meetings, with 100,000 euros to cover travel and accommodation expenses (for a maximum of 5 calendar days), as well as the congress registration fee.
The funding lines included in the 2025 Research Plan comprise specific programs aimed at developing human talent, promoting internationalization, facilitating access to competitive funding, and consolidating the institution's scientific excellence. Applications must be submitted through the General Electronic Registry of the University of La Laguna.
