The Faculty of Humanities at the University of La Laguna will celebrate next Friday, October 2nd, the First Training Day for Student Representatives, A pioneering initiative promoted by the Student Delegation under the motto “Represent, communicate and transform: a day of student leadership in the Humanities”. Registration is open through this form.
The activity will take place between 9:00 and 14:00 in the Graduation Hall of the César Manrique Building on the Guajara University Campus and is aimed at group delegates, sub-delegates, members of the University Senate, representatives in collegiate bodies and, in general, any student interested in participation and representation.
The event was created with the aim of providing basic and common training to those who perform student representation functions, facilitating knowledge of the university structure, the resources available to students and the necessary tools to exercise effective, close and committed representation to the needs of the student body.
The program will feature representatives and specialists from various fields. The opening remarks will be delivered by the Vice-Rector for Students, María Rosario Hernández Borges, followed by a presentation from the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Javier Medina López, on the challenges and social value of the humanities disciplines today.
Among the planned content are a session on legal resources and advice for students, given by Rocío Medina López, legal advisor of the Information and Guidance Service (SIO); a communication skills workshop led by Lucas Morales Domínguez; a presentation on external university representation and participation led by Carla Sosa Rivero of the Coordinator of Student Representatives of Public Universities (CREUP); and a dynamic of individual and collective talent development led by Mónica Yballa González Delgado.
In addition, the Student Representative Guide of the Faculty of Humanities will be officially presented during the day, a resource prepared by the Student Delegation itself that brings together practical information on regulations, functions, procedures, resources and communication channels to facilitate the performance of student representation.
“These workshops were created with the aim of providing our representatives with the necessary tools to carry out their work with commitment and confidence. We want those of us who assume representative responsibilities to feel supported, to be aware of the resources available to us, and to understand that our role is fundamental in building a more participatory, accessible university that is connected to the real needs of the student body. Student representation is not just about attending meetings; it involves listening, communicating, and contributing to the improvement of our faculty,” explains Sergio Cordobés Alonso, president of the Student Delegation of the Faculty of Humanities.
“We hope that this first edition will serve as a starting point to consolidate a stable network of collaboration between students and representatives not only from the Faculty of Humanities, but also from other Centers and Faculties of the University of La Laguna, where meeting spaces are created and the voice of the student body is taken into account,” adds Pablo Martín Expósito, Member of the Participation and Communication Committee.
With this initiative, the Student Delegation of the Faculty of Humanities reinforces its commitment to a more prepared, active and engaged student participation in the development of the university community.
