The Tenerife Island Council has launched the Sustainable Mobility Strategy in the Anaga Massif Biosphere Reserve, in collaboration with the University of La Laguna, to conduct a study on mobility in the area. The aim is to design a plan based on data collected through various means, enabling real-time information via IoT sensors. This information will facilitate the implementation of demand-driven measures to improve travel conditions and options, as well as the overall quality of life in the massif.<\/p>\n
The Anaga Biosphere Reserve boasts a rich environmental, social, and ethnographic heritage that attracts over 1.8 million visitors annually. Tourists and residents alike traverse the park daily, placing pressure on the environment and local communities. This situation underscores the urgent need to promote more sustainable mobility that addresses the needs of Anaga's population groups, whose economic, social, and physical lives are hampered by inadequate infrastructure and transportation.<\/p>\n
To this end, information will be gathered about public perceptions of this situation in order to design a method that takes into account the environment and the people involved. Some of the options being analyzed include improving public transportation, creating parking facilities near the area, and providing complementary transportation services.<\/p>\n The research staff linked to the ULL-CajaCanarias Chair of Economics and Mobility<\/a> will be responsible for preparing forms, while the team of the Cajasiete Chair of Big Data, Open Data and Blockchain<\/a>, Also from the academic center, the research team will handle data processing and results visualization, among other aspects. The ULL's Statistics Research Group will focus on the survey's sample design. This study is funded by the European Union's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which aims to address the high volume of vehicles and people visiting the region. The Tenerife Island Council is allocating part of this grant to this project as an essential element for managing the area.
