As part of the development of 'Tenerife Lives Diversity' with the Canary Foundation El Buen Samaritano, a group of young people who have migrated by sea are producing the book The trip<\/em>, A story centered on their shared experiences, aiming to promote life as the core of society. Its presentation took place in the faculty lounge of the C\u00e9sar Manrique Building on the Guajara campus of the University of La Laguna.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>While being a migrant is an important aspect of the identity of those who experience migration, it is often a condition fraught with prejudice. To help curb this stigma and recognize the value of migrants, fourteen young people associated with the Canary Islands Foundation El Buen Samaritano have created a book entitled The trip<\/em>, presented this Thursday, December 19th at the University of La Laguna during the closing ceremony of the training courses of the Social Integration of Young Migrants project, of the foundation.<\/p>\n

This book arises in the context of the development of the Strategic Framework for intercultural coexistence 'Tenerife lives Diversity', which has the support of Juntas. In the same direction, the strategy for intercultural coexistence in Tenerife promoted by the Cabildo of Tenerife and the University of La Laguna.<\/p>\n

This is a process that began in 2023 and has involved multiple exchange meetings and interviews, as well as photography workshops, led by Karmala Cultura; writing workshops and collage<\/em>, in charge of Rioko Fotabon, as well as office automation, to give shape to the book The trip<\/em>, whose authorship and illustration are signed by Abibo Abdaf Danf\u00e1, Moustapha Sano, Ibrahima Kama, Modou Lamin Manneh, Mor, Djibril Cisse, Diasee, Omar Demba, Ousmane Ousseynou Gueye, Ebrima, Moussa, David, Kane, Mamadou.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>In the words of one of its authors, Abibo Abdaf Danf\u00e1, \u201cwe need everyone to read The trip<\/em> So that people can understand what we've been through and, above all, who we are\u2014that we didn't just come here in boats, but that we also have talent. I think this book can change the mindset of those who read it because it encourages reflection. For me, making this book with my colleagues has been a source of pride because it's what I came here for: to learn and work towards a more dignified life.\u201d.<\/p>\n

Thus, The trip<\/em> It puts their common stories at the center to raise awareness about what migrations encompass from a perspective of exchange and social transformation, which also includes real alternatives that can help ensure that African youth are not forced to make such risky and uncertain journeys, such as the project of the Canary Foundation El Buen Samaritano for the construction of the Hotel School, Hogar Baobab, in Kayar, their home village in Senegal.<\/p>\n
