One of them is related to quantum technologies and their applications. “We have research groups working in the field of quantum systems,” says Delgado. “Any physical system is always interacting with its environment, and the same is true for microscopic systems. But, in addition, these systems are much more sensitive, so we need to study how the interaction with the environment modifies the properties and behavior of these systems,” he points out.

On the other hand, from a more applied perspective, the institute has groups that focus their work on complex atomic and molecular systems, whether of biological or medical interest, such as viruses, or of astrophysical interest. The institute also develops research lines related to spectroscopy, specializing in the optical range. “Several groups, both experimental and theoretical, are working with high-pressure media, as well as methods for detecting, for example, pressure in different environments or developing temperature sensors from optical measurements,” explains the director.

Research is also being conducted on nanomaterials and engineered materials, such as hybrid materials, which may have biomedical applications. “They can be used to detect the presence of certain substances in the bloodstream or to transport drugs to their target organs,” Delgado explains. In addition, the institute is developing other lines of research related to quantum computing and control, applied mathematics, dynamical systems and chaos theory, and molecular simulation. It is also working in areas such as microresonators and optomechanics, nanostructuring of materials using femtosecond lasers, and integrated photonics.

Currently, the research staff that make up the IUdEA lead research projects endowed with competitive funding from calls from the Ministry of Science, Research and Universities and the Government of the Canary Islands, as well as from European programs for the promotion of research such as Horizon Europe.

Victor Lavin.

Photonic technology, optical sensors and new materials

The Laser Spectroscopy and High Pressures (GESLAP) research group focuses on characterizing and studying the optical and structural properties of advanced materials, especially those doped with rare-earth ions, with applications in photonics, optoelectronics, and optical sensors. With this strategy, the IUdEA seeks to strengthen its capacity for innovation and lay the foundations for ensuring the continuity of its scientific activity in the coming years.

Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (Cienci@ULL)

Con el propósito de agrupar al personal investigador de la Universidad de La Laguna que trabaja en áreas comunes vinculadas…

[175,183,1296,3261,37,51
5877,5882,5879,3691,2169,5874,5875,5880,5878,1781,5876,5881,2164
post-14676","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-ciencia-ull","category-ciencias-medicas-basicas","category-fisica","category-instituto-universitario-de-estudios-avanzados-en-fisica-atomica-molecular-y-fotonica","category-investigacion","category-protagonistas","tag-airan-rodenas","tag-antonia-ruiz","tag-daniel-alonso-ramirez","tag-fernando-delgado","tag-fernando-lahoz","tag-instituto-de-estudios-avanzados-en-fisica-atomica-molecular-y-fotonica","tag-iudea","tag-luis-alberto-correa-marichal","tag-santiago-brouard","tag-teresa-giraldez","tag-ulises-ruyman-rodriguez-mendoza","tag-urma-aemilia-gonzalez","tag-victor-lavin

https://www.ull.es/portal/noticias/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/11/Inst-Est-Fis-Atomica-IUdEA-02-300x200.jpg
["GET
