The Pedro Garc\u00eda Cabrera Cultural Chair<\/a> The University of La Laguna presented on January 29th the program of activities \u201cPedro, Against All Odds,\u201d a tribute to the poet that will take place this summer in Vallehermoso, the writer's birthplace, coinciding with the town's quinquennial festivities. These events are made possible thanks to agreement signed<\/a> On June 27, 2024, an agreement was signed between the academic institution and the city council, thanks to which the municipal corporation provides significant economic and logistical support to the organization of the activities.<\/p>\n

The presentation was held in the former Santo Domingo convent in La Laguna and included at the table the rector of the University of La Laguna, Francisco J. Garc\u00eda Rodr\u00edguez; the vice-rector of Culture and University Extension, Isabel Karely Le\u00f3n P\u00e9rez; the councilor for Culture, Festivities and Local Development of the Vallehermoso City Council, Estrella del Carmen Morales Medina; and the director of the Pedro Garc\u00eda Cabrera Cultural Chair., Guadalberto Hern\u00e1ndez Hern\u00e1ndez<\/a>. The event also included a guitar and vocal recital by Germ\u00e1n Cuesto and Ernesto Rodr\u00edguez Abad<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Although the activities presented form a program with its own identity, they will be integrated into the quinquennial celebrations that the Vallehermoso City Council will develop from June 13, 2025. \u201cPedro, Against All Odds\u201d is a multidisciplinary cultural and educational project that includes conferences, colloquiums, reading and writing workshops, musical and theatrical recitals, book presentations, contests and even the creation and installation of a bronze statue by the sculptor and professor of the Faculty of Fine Arts Itahisa P\u00e9rez Conesa.<\/p>\n

This program has been configured by a committee made up of Rafael Alonso, emeritus professor of Physiology and deputy director of the chair; Luis Balbuena, professor of Mathematics and former Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands; Cecilia Dom\u00ednguez Luis, writer and Canary Islands Literature Prize winner; Felipe Garc\u00eda Land\u00edn, professor of literature and literary critic; Guadalberto Hern\u00e1ndez, professor of Physiology and director of the chair; C. Brian Morris, emeritus professor of the University of California and Gold Medal of the Canary Islands; and Jos\u00e9 A. Ramos Arteaga, professor of Literature and director of the Philology Theatre Group.<\/p>\n

-December 12, 2024: Publication of the bases<\/a> of the Nature and Literature Competition, whose jury's decision will be published on July 1, 2025.<\/p>\n

-June 20 at 7:00 p.m.: Installation of the bronze statue dedicated to Pedro Garc\u00eda Cabrera created by Itahisa P\u00e9rez Conesa.<\/p>\n

-June 25 and July 3 at 8:00 p.m.: Musical performance of \u201cTransparencias fugadas\u201d by Germ\u00e1n Cuesto (guitar and libretto), \u00c1bora Cel Abreu (voice), Yurena Darias (cello) and Ernesto Rodr\u00edguez Abad (recitation). Vallehermoso Cultural Center and Town Hall Square, respectively.<\/p>\n

-July 2nd at 8:00 PM: Dramatization of \u201cProjections\u201d by the Philology Theatre Group of the ULL. Vallehermoso Cultural Center.<\/p>\n

-July 3rd at 12:00 and 16:00: Reading and writing workshops \u201cGetting to know Pedro\u201d, developed by Cecilia Dom\u00ednguez Luis and Guadalberto Hern\u00e1ndez. CEIP de Vallehermoso, July 3, 2025 (12 and 16 h, respectively).<\/p>\n

-July 3, 7:00 p.m.: Recital of d\u00e9cima poets from Vallehermoso.<\/p>\n

July 4th and 5th. A monographic conference on Pedro Garc\u00eda Cabrera will be held at the Vallehermoso Cultural Center on July 4th and 5th, 2025, featuring presentations and roundtables with writers and university researchers from various fields. During the conference, the works "Las naranjas de Pedro" (Pedro's Oranges), a biography of the poet for children written by Cecilia Dom\u00ednguez Luis and illustrated by Nareme Meli\u00e1n Mahugo, will be presented, along with a selection of educational resources for secondary and high school students.<\/p>\n

July 6 at 8:00 p.m.: Performance of \u201cPedro, a rebellion of silences\u201d by the Achinech company, based on the staging by Oswaldo Bord\u00f3n and dramaturgy by Jos\u00e9 A Ramos Arteaga, at the House of Culture of Vallehermoso.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
