The Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation and the Information Society (ACIISI), in collaboration with the University of La Laguna, through its Faculty of Science and its General Foundation, welcomes a new edition of the 'We Do Science' event. This event is part of the Women and Girls in Science and Innovation 2025 Program and was held online yesterday.<\/p>\n
Under the motto 'Visible today, inspiring tomorrow', ACIISI reaffirms its commitment to promoting the role of women in science. The goal is to encourage their participation and recognize them as key agents in scientific and technological advancement.<\/p>\n
The event, organized by the Faculty of Sciences, Cienci@ULL (Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit) and ACIISI, has brought together more than 3,000 students from schools across the eight islands, who have had the opportunity to interact with leading researchers and learn firsthand about their experiences in the scientific and innovative world.<\/p>\n
The event was led by the Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of La Laguna, Mar\u00eda del Mar Afonso, who then gave the floor to the attending authorities to begin the opening ceremony. First to speak was the Director of ACIISI, Javier Franco, who emphasized the importance of initiatives like this in inspiring future generations and advancing towards a more inclusive and equitable science. Next, the Managing Director of the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna, Julio Brito Santana, highlighted the valuable opportunity to meet the participating scientists firsthand and to encourage future generations to pursue higher education at our public universities.<\/p>\n
Among the distinguished participants in this edition were Ana Mar\u00eda Crespo de las Casas, president of the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences of Spain; Marisa Tejedor Salguero, emeritus professor of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry at the University of La Laguna (ULL); Bego\u00f1a Barrios Barrera, tenured professor in the Department of Mathematical Analysis at the ULL; and Cintia Hern\u00e1ndez S\u00e1nchez, PhD lecturer in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the ULL.
