The Higher Polytechnic School of Engineering of the University of La Laguna hosted on Monday, February 10, the conference "The Teide Cable Car. The transition towards a sustainable future", given by Luis Pintor Sep\u00falveda, dean of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife branch of the College of Civil Engineers and Technical Director of the Teide Cable Car.<\/p>\n
The history of the Teide Cable Car dates back to the 1930s, with construction culminating in the early 1970s and its inaugural journey taking place on July 18, 1972. Building this infrastructure presented a significant challenge, primarily due to the demanding high-mountain conditions, harsh winters, and the difficulties of transporting construction materials along the route. Furthermore, the cable car was isolated from the rest of the island in terms of electricity, water, and telecommunications, effectively making it an "island within an island.".<\/p>\n
Currently, the cable car's energy transition has positioned it at the forefront of energy management, utilizing renewable energy in isolated systems and eliminating emissions from the old diesel engines.
